The position is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe working environment on all construction sites by implementing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. The role involves conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company safety standards, and promoting awareness of safe work practices. The SHE Officer collaborates with site managers, employees, and contractors to minimize workplace accidents and environmental impact, investigates incidents, and provides recommendations for corrective actions. Additionally, the officer is involved in training staff on safety procedures and emergency preparedness.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies and procedures.
Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Identify potential hazards and carry out risk assessments.
Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
Provide SHE training and awareness programs to employees and contractors.
Maintain records of safety incidents and compliance reports.
Ensure compliance with local SHE regulations and company policies.
Qualifications:
Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Certification in Safety, Health, and Environment management (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, IOSH) is preferred.
Knowledge of local SHE regulations and standards applicable to the construction industry.
First Aid and/or Fire Safety certification is an advantage.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience working as an SHE Officer or similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
Proven track record of conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Familiarity with safety management systems and environmental impact assessments.
Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
Knowledge of construction-specific safety hazards and mitigation strategies.
