About the Role

Responsible for OHS programs.

As the appointed Management Representative responsible for ensuring that the OHSAS health and safety management system is maintained and improved.

Relationships of the Job

Daily interactions with all HODs on all HR, quality, safety, health and environmental issues.

Interaction with the sales team for preparing safety files.

As required, interaction with Labour Inspectors on any labour-related and OHS issues, SABS on quality assurance, customers and suppliers on quality issues, BBBEE consultants and auditors, and MERSETA on skills development issues.

Interact with any specialists as appointed by the Company on QA, BEE, EE and OHS.

Responsibilities

1. SHE Management Systems

In conjunction with OHS Officer:

1. Revise H & S standards and forms as required
2. Monitor performance and report back to senior management
3. Assist with risk assessments as necessary
4. Assist with incident investigation as required
5. Ensure that all legal and international standard requirements are covered by company SHE management systems.
6. Ensure company compliance with system requirements by means of internal audits, inspections and non-conformance system.
7. Review and recommend changes to ensure OHS programs remain effective.
8. Liaise with accreditation authorities as necessary
9. Assist all sections to resolve management system related problems
10. Preparing safety files for sales team required at Client's site.
11. Visit installation site to check safety compliances.

Security

1. Monitor performance of external security provider
2. Investigate and report to management on all security incidents
3. Do spot checks on premises to verify that fences, alarms, etc. are in good condition
4. Recommend improvements as necessary to management and select suitable suppliers to implement approved improvements
5. Investigate any thefts, damage to company property and significant losses.
6. Prepare a report on investigation results with recommended action for management.
7. Implement any recommendations approved by management to prevent or mitigate future losses.

SHE Management Systems

Ensure all employees comply fully with Section 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act: General duties of employees at work.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you and your subordinates are familiar with the above section.

A copy can be requested from the OHS Manager.

Copies of the act are also available electronically on the Company's home page.

Summaries of the act are displayed throughout all departments in the Company.

Complete an incident report for any contravention of the Company's health and safety rules and do a full investigation before submitting the form to the OHS Manager.

You are further required to comply and ensure the compliance of your subordinates with all requirements of the Company's quality management system applicable to your position and activities.

Requirements

1. Grade 12 with maths
2. Degree / diploma in safety and environment engineering
3. OHSA or NOSA qualification.
4. ISO will be required for environmental job functions.
5. Qualified systems auditor
6. Knowledge of BEEA, LRA, environmental and occupational health and safety legislation
7. Manufacturing and process experience 5 years
8. Administrative experience 3 years
9. Management experience 3 years
10. Experience in all aspects of occupational health and safety 10 years
