Senior Strata Control Officer, D1

Seriti, New Denmark Colliery, Mpumalanga

The Role

To ensure compliance to mine standards and COP’s with regards to Strata Control.


Responsibilities Will Include But Not Limited To
  1. Comply with and ensure adherence to safety regulations
  2. Adhere to corporate governance implementation
  3. Conduct Inspections of roof quality
  4. Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all underground workers
  5. Ensure and enforce compliance and adherence to legislative requirements
  6. Compliance with the Emergency Preparedness and Response requirements
  7. Ensure the effective management of contractors
  8. Ensure change management process is implemented and communicated
  9. Conduct quality inspections to ensure compliance to the company’s Rock Engineering specifications
  10. Analysis of trends (i.e. Safety, Cost, Production, People)
  11. To collect sample, analyse and report test results of mine support materials and comply to ISO 9000 requirements
  12. Interact with customers and familiarize yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities (e.g. HSEC & ISO issues)
  13. Budgetary control for laboratory materials
  14. Produce monthly invoices
  15. Conduct quality assurance tests on support materials
  16. Participate in and maintain compliance with a support quality assurance system (ISO)
  17. Participate in investigation (RCFA) of failed support units
  18. Draft 1SAP reports as identified and specified

Requirements
  1. BSc Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering / Geology or 2 Papers of COMREC or Mine Overseer Certificate or Mine Managers Certificate
  2. Chamber of Mines (CoM) Certificate in Strata Control (Coal)
  3. Safety & Risk Management courses
  4. A minimum 2 – 5 years of experience in Rock Engineering within the Coal mining industry
  5. In-depth knowledge of rock engineering practices
  6. Relevant mining environmental legislation
  7. Proficiency in MS Office Suite & Bentley Reader
  8. A valid driver’s license

Advantageous
  1. Management Development Programme or equivalent
  2. Member of SANIRE
  3. Registered ECSA professional certified Strata Control Engineer
  4. National training certificate at least on NQF Level 4 or higher
  5. Experience in mining methods, mine planning & shafts / boxcuts
  6. Experience in the preparation of learning material as well as preparation
  7. Experience in U/G Production roof support on operations
  8. Strata Control / UG / OC mining analysis and evaluation skill
