Senior Software Engineer

Our client, a prestigious tertiary education institution located in the West Rand, Johannesburg, is seeking a Lecturer: Engineering to join their dynamic academic team.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate and knowledgeable engineering professional to contribute to the education and development of future industry leaders.

Academic Leadership & Campus Support

1. Assist with reviewing academic results of all students within the School on campus and implement an appropriate teaching and learning strategy for "At risk" students and "At risk" modules.
2. Provide academic counselling and support to students within the School.
3. Support the development of new programmes for accreditation.
4. Support development of academic material and assessments on programmes within the School by acting as developer, module leader, moderator or head of programme for the Central Academic Team (CAT).
5. Provide support to the campus marketing team with specialised knowledge of the programmes within the School.
6. Assist with plagiarism offences and disciplinary procedures.
7. Involvement in, and management of, academic support and administrative duties during the campus registration period.
8. Assist with the student tracking process.
9. Conduct student consultations.
10. Be an active member and/or Chairperson of Engineering Committees.
11. Assist the School with Teaching & Learning initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

1. Minimum of a BEng and a Master of Engineering (NQF Level 9) in Civil Engineering.
2. Registration as a Professional Engineer would be highly advantageous.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:

1. At least 2 years of experience in Teaching and Learning (preferably in a tertiary education environment).
2. Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and development.
3. A record of research and publication in scholarly journals and/or conference proceedings.
4. Must have an understanding of the regulatory framework and its impact on higher education and private colleges.
5. Professional/advanced communication skills.
6. Organisational and planning skills.
7. Tolerance for operating in a pressurised environment and industry.
8. Ability to analyse and interpret data.
9. Attention to detail and focus on quality.
10. Advanced teaching and learning expertise evidenced by a Teaching Portfolio.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 17:00

Industry, Professional Management & Building Partnerships

1. Develop and maintain relationships with professional industry to support placement of students, bursaries and sponsorships, and access to professional expertise.
2. Facilitate and be involved in professional and scholarly activities e.g. Conference Papers and Higher Degree Studies.
3. Organise campus events for the School to promote professional industry relationships.
4. Actively engage with the ECSA and relevant professional bodies, such as SAICE, SAIEE and SAIMechE.
5. Lecture on engineering-related programmes across various modes of delivery where relevant.
6. Mark assessments and provide feedback to students in subjects lectured.
7. May be required to internally moderate assessment scripts that fall within their subject fields, where necessary across Sites of delivery.
8. Supervise Capstone Design and Research Modules.

Student Development & Campus Support

1. Assist with academic development and support for a specific programme and its students.
2. Track student success and implement support interventions where required.
3. Assist in lecturer development and support processes and procedures.
4. This may include conducting peer reviews, facilitating workshops and one-on-one consultations.
5. Assist in the coordination of the engineering learning centre (ELC) (teaching assistants/tutors).
6. Assist in the coordination of the engineering society focusing on student industry engagement.

Research & Scholarship

The incumbent is required to promote a culture of scholarship within their practice, discipline and campus/team and is also required to contribute towards the campus achieving its annual research output targets.
