Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Perform daily planning of activities and tasks to ensure timely completion ahead of deadlines.
• Plan and implement nursing care plans according to identified needs.
• Conduct pre-employment medical examinations in accordance with medical examination protocols.
• Conduct pre-placement and transfer medicals in accordance with medical examination protocols.
• Provide a baseline health status and determine fitness for duty.
• Conduct periodic health screenings to detect early signs of target organ damage related to specific health hazard exposure.
• Identify and ensure early and prompt intervention measures for affected employees and referrals to appropriate functionaries.
• Report and assist on all injuries on duty and occupational diseases.
• Conduct exit medicals to detect and exclude possible occupational diseases related to occupational exposure.
• Follow organisational standards and procedures for the medical surveillance process.
• Assess the ability to work and the health status of an employee/client.
• Present recommendations to the line manager.
• Ensure medical records are recorded and signed.
• Assess, monitor, and provide support to patients with medical problems impacting work ability.
• Provide input into incident investigations.
• Manage the Occupational Health Centre.
• Order equipment and medical supplies for the OHC.
• Allocate bookings on the medical booking system.
• Manage human resources within the department.
• Handle HR administration such as leave forms and exception reports.
• Participate in internal and external audits.
• Manage the Emergency or Trauma Unit.
• Identify, analyze, apply, and interpret legislation and regulations relevant to Occupational Health and Safety.
• Work collaboratively with other disciplines in the mine, including HR, Safety and Environment, and the Hygiene department.
• Promote customer care.

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing
• B.Tech Occupational Health Nursing
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council
• Dispensing licence (where applicable)
• Health Services Management certificate or equivalent
• Certificate in Audiometry, Spirometry, Vision, and VCT

Experience:

• 3 to 5 years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Prior experience in a mining environment is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of operational processes within the scope of the role.
• Risk management techniques and critical controls.
• Knowledge of safety, health, and environment legislative, statutory, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant mining and labour legislation.
