Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer in Financial Accounting

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate the learning process in Financial Accounting / Corporate Financial Reporting for undergraduate and postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Facilitate the learning process in Financial Accounting / Corporate Financial Reporting (by taking responsibility for course material, lectures, tutorials and setting and moderating assessments) for undergraduate and postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA) - both day and evening groups.
2. Undertake research and scholarly activities.
3. Supervise postgraduate students.
4. Engage with professional bodies and other stakeholders.
5. Perform related administrative duties.

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Sound knowledge in the theory and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), recent trends and developments in the field, evidenced, among others, by a sound record of accomplishment of academic performance in the subject area.
2. Experience in facilitating learning for undergraduate (lecturer) and/or postgraduate (senior lecturer) students intending to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).
3. Experience in academic leadership and/or course coordination (senior lecturer).
4. Potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge in research and publication (lecturer).
5. Relevant knowledge of research methodologies in the field of Financial Reporting/Corporate Financial Reporting and potential to supervise postgraduate students and be engaged in research and scholarly activities (senior lecturer).
6. The innate desire to deliver work of an excellent standard.
7. Strong communication (written/verbal) skills.
8. Initiative and motivation to work without needing extensive supervision.
9. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and be able to work as part of a team.
10. Strong administrative skills.

Added Advantages And Preferences

1. Experience in the facilitation and management of large diverse student groups.
2. Experience in blended learning practices.
3. Experience and a thorough understanding of trending technologies including data and/or accounting analytics.
4. Involvement in professional activities or with professional bodies and other stakeholders.

Requirements

In order to be considered for the senior lecturer rank, candidates should:

1. Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (in good standing);
2. Be in possession of a Master's degree or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification specialising in Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting;
3. Have extensive relevant or related working experience (5 years) in Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting and/or in the facilitation of learning in postgraduate Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting courses.

In order to be considered for the lecturer rank, candidates should:

1. Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (or should have passed the professional examinations and be in the final year of obtaining the designation);
2. Be in possession of an Honour’s degree or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification specialising in Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting;
3. Have at least 3 years relevant or related working experience in Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting and/or in the facilitation of learning in undergraduate and/or postgraduate Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting courses.
4. Preference will be given to candidates who have made progress towards a Master’s degree specialising in Financial Accounting/Corporate Financial Reporting and those with experience in facilitation of learning at the postgraduate level.
