Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst - Financial Engineering Division: Group Finance Reporting to: Head: Strategic Finance & Provisions Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Financial Analyst to join our team in Johannesburg. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for providing strategic financial insights and analysis to support our business growth and decision-making processes. The successful candidate will possess excellent statistical/analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of financial systems and processes.
Purpose of Role: Advanced financial modeling; develop statistical models that can be used to quantify the correlation between risk and overall portfolio dynamics (i.e. migrations, volume/balance transitions between the respective collections states, overall risk emergence, etc.); cash-flow forecasting on existing and expected new sales portfolios. Automation, monitoring, and governance checks of models, strategy, budget variances, and operational key metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform financial analysis and modeling to support business forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and providing insights to senior management.
Conduct variance analysis on financial results, identifying areas of improvement and recommending corrective actions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial performance metrics and monitoring systems.
Support the development of business cases and financial justifications for new projects and initiatives.
Evaluate investment opportunities and provide relevant financial analysis to support decision-making.
Conduct financial due diligence for potential acquisitions, partnerships, or other strategic initiatives.
Prepare and present financial reports and presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
Participate in the development and improvement of financial models and forecasting techniques.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and corporate governance requirements.
Monitor and provide strategic insights on key market trends and competitor analysis.
Coach and mentor junior financial analysts, fostering their professional development within the team.
Qualifications and Experience:
Hons Quantitative Degree (Minimum)
A Master's degree or similar professional certification - (eg. CFA, RE1 or similar) preferred
4 years of Statistical Modeling experience in the financial sector; working knowledge of Financial- and Impairment modeling.
Proven working experience as a Financial Analyst, ideally in a similar senior role.
Excellent understanding of financial statements, financial modeling, and financial forecasting.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
Proficiency in financial analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, SAP, ERP systems).
Solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and corporate governance.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Experience in conducting financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
Knowledge of the South African financial market and regulations is preferred but not required.
