CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Drafting Technician will be an integral part of the design team, establishing and managing the BIM project workflow and being responsible for quality, clash detection and data conversion.

CONTEXT

CKR is entering a new phase in its lifecycle where operational excellence has become critical for success. The urgency for change has become more heightened amid increased competitive intensity across all markets in which CKR operates.

SUPERVISORY/LEADERSHIP/MANAGERIAL TASKS

1. Manage Junior engineers and Technicians under direct supervision on technical aspect of their jobs.
2. Manage the Human resource functions to direct reports such as Leave; Performance; Personal Development, Competencies etc.
3. Provide design leadership to juniors.
4. Influence Junior Staff and Colleagues to exert desired CKR Behaviour’s and Values.
5. Business Development and Marketing.
6. Guide Financial plan for Business Unit in line with the Strategic Plan of CKR.
7. Ensure end to end tracking and reporting of Project Profitability.
8. Manage roll out of the Projects in line with set objectives.
9. Highlight inadequacies and process improvements to ensure efficiency and in time delivery
10. Custodian of CKR assets, ensuring the register is managed and reported on. (Control, loss protection and internal controls)
11. Ensure executive team are. Monitor spends and alert to limitations.
12. Ensure compliance to all fiscal and regulatory parameters
13. Ensure and lead the efficient use of people and capital

ROLE DEPENDENCIES

1. Engineering Personnel
2. Internal CKR disciplines for quality coordination of MEP services.
3. External stakeholders [Consultants; PM’s; Architects; QS; Clients; Developers; Government Bodies etc.]
4. Liaising with Clients and other Consultants drafting personnel.

1. Understanding client requirements, interpreting them using engineering judgements and presenting a solution.

4. Alert Management or colleagues to issues and risks in any project or the business itself.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Education/Software expectations/Experience:
2. Two years of college in an engineering field, including specialized training in drafting, and at least three years of experience in drafting in the field under consideration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. N3 diploma in engineering, and three or more years of experience as a BIM Technician in the field under consideration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desirable.
4. Must have an in-depth working knowledge of current BIM versions with emphasis on project setup, multi-discipline coordination and collaboration.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
6. Must have a professional appearance
7. Ability to use time productively, maximise efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
8. Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
9. Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold the company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
10. Must have excellent knowledge on the following Autodesk design software (professional certification is an advantage):
11. Autodesk Revit (MEP as primary solution, with knowledge of Structure and architecture regarding model coordination)
12. Autodesk Navisworks Manage is desirable
13. Working knowledge of other Autodesk software which forms part of the design process workflow an advantage e.g. Autodesk 3ds, etc.
14. Must have excellent PC experience in Windows environment, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, web-enabled application and database software
15. Must be a self-starter and possess the drive to pursue continued education and BIM
16. Possess the ability to work well as part of a team and independently.

DUTIES

1. Your duties will comprise:
2. GENERAL
3. Develop, implement and maintain the BIM Protocol for the project.
4. Ensure that all stakeholders are on board with the project goals and understand the BIM process and their role within it.
5. Model management and administration ensuring the health of the BIM database ‘model’
6. Establish robust quality control procedures to ensure that all models and datasets are accurate and that the level of information is fit for purpose.
7. Daily model management administration and maintenance
8. Recording and monitoring the shared data and relationships between models, for example grids, floor levels and shared project coordinates.
9. BIM content creation on a local / project basis and submittal to Principle and Senior Drafting Team Leads to inclusion within the company content library
10. Integration of Revit with other applications
11. Assisting Senior Drafting Team Leads in the deployment of the company BIM template and standards and ensuring that the design teams adhere to these
12. Conducting clash-detection and conflict resolution, then disseminating coordination information to the relevant parties both internally and externally.
13. Senior Drafting Technician Under supervision, perform all or many of the duties indicated on slide 1 under the drafting section.
14. This is the full operational level for engineering drafting. Incumbents typically receive nonroutine engineering drafting assignments that involve application of most of the standardized drawing techniques regularly used. Assignments problem-solving complete instructions and design detail by Principal Drafting Technician or a Professional Engineer.
15. Original design contributions are not regularly expected at this level. Incumbents may have Drafting Technicians for assistants in producing the routine, simple drafting work. Examples of assignments at this level of difficulty and responsibility are: Engineering Drafting Technician (electrical or mechanical) for construction projects, either new construction or alterations, undertaken by CKR, for general commercial buildings, with work subject to checking and review by the Professional Engineer responsible for the project.
