Summary of Job:

The Learning Design team is responsible for the strategic design of learning experiences across all learning products and accounts. The team’s approach is grounded in empirical research on how people learn and leverages a creative design toolkit to analyze, evaluate, and create wholly new learning experiences for a global audience. Designers work with university and enterprise partners around the world, as well as internal subject matter experts, to channel their expertise into courses and curricula.

The Senior Director, Learning design is a thought leader in learning design principles and practices, driving the strategic direction of the team by balancing the needs of course-level design, the application of research-based best practice in online learning, and internal business drivers. They share a passion for transforming the delivery of education, and are comfortable both in the academic world and in a dynamic fast-growing organization. They oversee Learning Design Managers and other senior contributors on the team. They hold responsibility for design excellence in the areas of expertise under their jurisdiction and drive innovation within the Learning Design functions and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Must-Have Skills/Competencies:

  • Plan, drive and deliver comprehensive learning solutions for a group of projects.
  • Mentor and lead a strategic account-level instructional design team.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the instructional design group.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain instructional design talent.
  • Drive cutting-edge approaches for high quality output and process efficiency.
  • Coach, mentor and motivate team members.

KRAs overall:

  • Managing the team structure, Attrition and Hiring.
  • Capacity Planning & Group Utilization.
  • Driving quality and efficiency.
  • Upskilling and training.

Financial: Indirectly contribute to margin by driving on time, on scope delivery.

Operational:

  • Drive efficiency (through tools, rubrics, processes, organizational structure and tech).
  • Drive quality output (measured through internal rubrics and stakeholder NPS).
  • Drive team utilization.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Professional Development: Spearhead the growth of soft skills, technical expertise, and business acumen for both self and team members, ensuring continuous learning and adaptability.
  • Team Collaboration and Engagement: Foster a culture of collaboration and active engagement within and across teams, promoting inclusivity and shared goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with both formal and informal teams to achieve common objectives, creating an environment that values inclusivity and collective ownership.
  • Compliance and Training: Ensure the completion of all mandatory internal training and adherence to compliance standards.

Accountability for DEI Practices and Metrics:

  • Equitable Hiring and Promotion: Uphold and drive fair hiring and promotion practices, ensuring diversity and equity in all processes.
  • Inclusion Index: Monitor and improve scores from employee surveys that measure feelings of inclusion, belonging, and respect within the organization.
  • Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS): Track and analyze eNPS, particularly by demographic groups, to assess how likely employees are to recommend the organization as a great workplace.
  • Diversity Metrics: Focus on enhancing diversity metrics within the team, with special attention to South Africa.
  • DEI Training: Ensure high attendance and participation in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training programs.
  • Exit Interviews and Tenure Analysis: Conduct and review exit interviews and analyze tenure data to inform DEI strategies and improve retention.
