Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position in the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). This position will report directly to the WIC Director.

Licensure as a Dietitian in the State of Florida is required for this position.

Primary Duties:

1. Provide nutrition assessment including the gathering of anthropometric and hematological data.
2. Provide nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to clients.
3. Assist and guide clerical and technical support staff of the WIC program.
4. Assist in the development of Walton County WIC nutrition education materials for client distribution.
5. Perform duties at the main clinic site or any other WIC satellite clinic.
6. Demonstrate good communication skills and professional ability to work as a team and independently.
7. Support and promote excellent Customer Service.
8. Ensure compliance with all standards, security, integrity, and confidentiality regulations.
9. Certify participants for WIC in accordance with federal requirements and Florida Department of Health WIC policies.
10. Determine nutritional/health risk for certification through individual nutrition assessments.
11. Document all utilizing the SOAP method of Problem Oriented Recording in Florida WiSE.
12. Provide professional nutrition counseling and follow-up to clients in accordance with established care plans.
13. Participate in VENA (Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment) principles.
14. Promote breastfeeding as the normal and preferred method of infant feeding.
15. Provide basic breastfeeding information and assist in teaching clients the use of breastfeeding equipment.
16. Participate in monthly WIC and community breastfeeding classes and promotions.
17. Document all activities appropriately in the FL WiSE System.
18. Work in a laboratory to obtain anthropometric and hematological data.
19. Check client's immunization status in FL Shots and input client information into the FL WiSE system.
20. Participate in monitoring QI/QA activities to assure compliance with program guidelines.
21. Act as a role model to co-workers and other DOH staff.
22. Help train new CPA staff and breastfeeding staff upon hire.
23. Attend meetings and participate in Walton CHD committees as needed.
24. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
2. Ability to prioritize and respond to changes in circumstances.
3. Ability to compile, interpret, and report information.
4. Ability to take accurate height/length and weight measurements as well as perform hemoglobin testing.
5. Knowledge of nutritional needs of pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women; infants; and children under the age of 5.
6. Basic computer skills; operate within FL WiSE for daily clinic function.
7. Ability to work with a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
8. Ability to counsel clients individually and conduct group education classes.
9. Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
10. Effectively communicate basic or non-technical information to coworkers and others.
11. Ability to lift and maneuver lab equipment and supplies up to twenty-five pounds.

Qualifications:

1. Licensure as a Dietitian in the State of Florida; eligible for License as a Dietitian in the State of Florida.
2. Valid Driver's License.
3. Preferred: CLC License Within Two Years Of Position.
4. Preferred: Bilingual interpretation skills.
