Senior Civil Engineer

Our Client, a well-established Engineering firm in Johannesburg, is seeking the services of an experienced Senior Engineer.

Type: Civil

Experience: 15 or more years experience in engineering consulting firm.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B. Eng or B.Sc. Eng).

Registrations: Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) (Non-negotiable).

Duties:

1. Promoting and applying employee engagement practices and concepts, especially in relation to recognition, empowerment, supportive feedback, partnering, expectations, consideration, and trust.
2. Performing all work in accordance with the Company's Quality Management System (QMS), Policies and Standards.
3. Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff.
4. Signing off designs and/or drawings as a responsible professional engineer.
5. Conducting feasibility studies, options analysis, and master planning.
6. Developing Scope of Work for projects - in consultation with Client or independently.
7. Providing engineering expertise and collaborating with consultants/specialists in major technical support areas.
8. Representing the Business Unit on local industry groups where required.
9. Implementing standardization, planning, and best practice initiatives in line with global and regional engineering practices.
10. Establishing design tools, software, relevant codes, and standards to be used on the project.
11. Assigning work tasks to individuals and continuously monitoring progress and quality.
12. Scheduling, coordinating, and participating in engineering design reviews.
13. Promoting and maintaining the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of engineering work.
14. Participating in staff development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counselling.
15. Ensuring that Quality Assurance policies are applied.
16. Providing input to contract negotiations and business plans.
17. Working closely with the design teams during design and procurement and post-award procedures to ensure timely completion of designs to meet budget and programme.
18. Working closely with the construction monitoring teams and contractors' representatives during the construction phase of projects to ensure timely completion of construction to meet budget and programme.
19. Preparing and/or managing the preparation of technical reports, designs, cost estimates, procurement documentation, bills of quantities, and technical specifications, contract documentation, as-built drawings, and operation and maintenance manuals related to designs produced by the project team.
20. Attending site visits/meetings.

9. Excellent understanding of relevant legislation and regulations, including the HS Act, Construction Regulations, and Environmental Management Act.
10. Good understanding of at least two of the four primary General Conditions of Contract (GCC, FIDIC, NEC, JBCC).
11. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, clients, contractors, visitors, etc.
12. Excellent technical report writing skills.
13. Ability to manage and direct multiple design teams.
