We're on the lookout for a dynamic and passionate Section Manager Operational Planning to join our team. The purpose of this role is to manage the mining planning activity on a section(s) of the mine within the safety leadership, sustainable development and Anglo-American values framework to ensure Life of Mine is achieved.

Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Develop mine plans and schedules to safely, efficiently and cost effectively meet short term production objectives.
  2. Provide technical expertise to production teams to ensure effective optimisation of mining operations, planning processes and capabilities.
  3. Manage mine planning resources to deliver section business targets including quality and volume, and evaluation of mine planning software.
  4. Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices.
  5. Meet mining objectives and conforms to AAP and Anglo mining standards, geotechnical and operational physical standards to ensure safe mining operations within legislative guidelines.
  6. Contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives to enhance mining processes.
  7. Keep abreast of developments in the mine planning field to initiate and implement projects and improvement initiatives toward contributing to business profitability and growth.
  8. Manage internal and external relations, including the interface with service providers, as well as other functions responsible for ensuring that business needs are met, and employees are satisfied.
  9. Assist with external stakeholder requests if appropriate to ensure smooth and efficient running of mine planning processes to address and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  10. Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
  11. Manage project expenditure to ensure sound financial practices are applied and upheld.
  12. Drive delivery of sustainability activities as relevant to discipline through the execution of work to improve sustainability performance over time.
  13. Participate in stakeholder engagements as relevant to discipline and act consistently with sustainability expectations.
  14. Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.

Qualifications

  • BEng – Mining Engineering and any mining related degree

Experience

  • 5 Years Operational experience in Open Cast Mine Planning and related operations
  • Experience in Open Cast/ Conventional or Mechanised mining essential

Technical knowledge(experience) and skills required for role:

  • Translates geotechnical knowledge to solve technical and operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures effective alignment of mining processes, safety and business requirements. Facilitates training for identified needs.
  • Constructs clear and accurate mine plans, indicates mining areas for operational teams, measures and reports on production and mining processes.
  • Creates a safe and secure mining environment through proactive risk identification, reporting and management.
  • Takes responsibility for protecting health and well-being. Understands the impact of operational stressors and complies to safe practice.
  • Able to analyses own behaviors and impact on others and adapt behaviors to suit context and circumstances.
  • Recognises and accepts the need to put overall business needs ahead of their own and can deal with internal/conflict/stress that may generate.
  • Fosters a climate that is inclusive and where team members feel safe to contribute, collaborate, receive feedback and coaching.
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with stakeholders, by use of effective listening and questioning to better understand the other person or group.

  • There could be ad hoc requirements from time to time including need to travel
