Introduction: The main objective of the position is to develop fuel cell MEAs for high volume production. The incumbent will form part of a team developing fuel cell MEAs which will lead to product development and manufacturing activities at Mintek.

Experience: Experience in fuel cell & / electrolyser catalyst and MEA is required. Knowledge of electrochemistry, electrochemical processes technology, precious metals heterogeneous catalysis, or electro / catalyst preparation will be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

1. Contribute as part of a team to develop methods for MEA preparation through roll-to-roll coating.
2. Undertake research to develop new ink formulations for high volume MEA production.
3. Conduct MEA and stack performance testing.
4. Undertake pilot production of certain MEA and fuel cell & / electrolyser catalysts products.
5. Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget.
6. Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.
7. Actively participate in the training, guidance, and motivation of junior staff.
8. Participate in team debates and technical decisions.
9. Produce professional reports, papers, and presentations at local and international conferences.
10. Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialisation.
11. Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division's interests.
12. Demonstrate through behaviour the values and vision of Mintek.

Minimum Requirements:

1. MSc / MEng in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
2. 2-3 years' experience in knowledge and understanding of PEMFC & / PEMWE electrocatalyst and MEA development, preparation, fabrication, characterisation, and testing methodologies.
3. Must be computer literate.
4. Ability to work in a team.
5. Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
6. Attention to detail, ability to follow up, and take initiative.
