Safety Officer

Supervise performance of the SHE Representatives.

Perform the duties of a Safety Officer, as prescribed in the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).

1. Carry out inspection of working places and machinery, as per Regulation 2.17.1 of the MHSA on a scheduled basis and make recommendations on deviations found during inspections.
2. Perform legal duties such as inspections, incident investigations, and reporting to the Chief Safety Officer.
3. Monitor the reporting of accidents and investigating incidents to determine root causes and appropriate remedial measures.
4. Identify hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.
5. Strive for a zero accident and incident rate and safe production.
6. Escalate noted deviations beyond their control or level of influence.
