Safety Officer

Our client in Brits has a vacancy for a Safety Officer with underground experience.

Qualifications and experience:

1. Grade 12
2. Safety Management Diploma will be advantageous
3. Comsoc 1 & 2 / Samtrac
4. DMR Blasting certificate is a must
5. Minimum 5 years experience as a Safety Officer with proven record
6. Underground mining experience preferably as a Shift Supervisor
7. All MQA units standards for fully qualified health and safety officer working with combination of MHSA as well as OHSA
8. Practical knowledge of and experience in Safety Management
9. Practical knowledge of pertinent SHE legislation
10. Valid drivers license and own transport
11. Medically fit (must pass mine medical fitness standards)

Duties:

1. Legal duties in terms of Reg 2.19.1 and 2.19.2 of the Minerals Act.
2. Conduct workplace inspections and legal compliance audits.
3. Compile daily and monthly Health & Safety reports.
4. Incident/ Accident investigations.
5. Risk Management.
6. Emergency Preparedness and Management.
7. Development and review of Safe Operating Procedures.
8. Ensure all incidents and unsafe acts are reported.
9. Provide on-the-job training.
10. Assess and approve contractors’ Safety files in accordance with Contractor Management Requirements.
11. Address non-conformances / compliances.
12. Follow through on actions, closing out reports.
13. Report and record keeping not negotiable.
14. Present a professional image of the SHERQ Department.
15. Daily/ weekly/ monthly reports.
16. Medical examinations, follow ups and addressing issues that may arise.
17. PPE control and management.
18. Coordination of Health & Safety Reps functioning.
19. Identification of training needs.
20. Standby duties on rotational basis.

Salary R70 000.00 - R78 000.00 CTC
