JOB TITLE: SAFETY OFFICER
We are looking for a qualified Safety Officer to join our team at the Metso Alrode Service Centre. You will play a crucial role in promoting Metso’s safety culture and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the SC manager, supervisors, and employees to foster a shared understanding and application of safety protocols and technical support. Your efforts will help build a robust safety system and culture across the site.
You will report to the Head of Repairs Africa and be based at Metso Alrode, Alberton.
TEAM YOU BELONG TO
You will be part of a dedicated team of office and workshop staff committed to achieving zero harm. Together, you will address all safety matters in line with the company's HSE policies, delivering technical solutions that meet the company’s objectives and goals.
You will also work with internal and external stakeholders, including the QEHS Department, auditors, and contractors, to ensure consistent understanding and adherence to the OSH Act.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop and support OHS policies and programs.
- Ensure workforce protection and safe equipment operation.
- Identify hazards and mitigate risks.
- Review and update existing policies and measures according to legislation.
- Inspect premises and personnel work to identify issues or non-conformities (e.g., not using protective equipment).
- Participate in incident investigations to determine causes and manage worker’s compensation claims with relevant role players.
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
WHO YOU ARE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- National Diploma in Safety Management is an advantage.
- OSHA and NEBOSH certifications are preferred.
- 5 years of experience in a safety-related field in a workshop environment.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with a results-driven approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.

- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
