Restaurant General Manager - Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Zeebra Junction Specialist Recruitment

The General Manager is accountable for overseeing the daily operations of an upscale dining establishment. Additionally, they supervise inventory management, optimize profits, and ensure guest satisfaction. The General Manager reports to the Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Primary responsibilities include):

  • General: Supervise and manage all aspects of the restaurant, making final decisions on important matters.
  • Financial: Adhere to company standards and service levels to boost sales, minimize costs, and ensure all financial and administrative duties are completed accurately and on time.
  • Food safety and planning: Enforce hygiene practices, ensure compliance with operational standards, and maintain high quality food preparation and service.
  • Maintain the restaurant's professional image, work with suppliers for efficient provisioning, and supervise portion control to minimize waste.
  • Estimate food needs, place orders with suppliers and the executive chef, and oversee the delivery of fresh food and supplies.
  • Guest service: Ensure positive guest experiences, address complaints, and take appropriate actions to retain guests.
  • Operational responsibilities: Establish security procedures to protect employees, guests, and assets, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Manage shifts, make daily decisions, uphold standards, and conduct investigations to resolve complaints.
  • Personnel: Provide guidance to employees, offer feedback, establish performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, prepare schedules, and ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred degree in hotel/restaurant management, or a combination of practical experience and education.
  • Proficiency in computers (MS Word, Excel), along with knowledge of various aspects of restaurant functions.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and agree to background and credit checks.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Self-discipline, leadership ability, pleasant demeanor, neat appearance, and the capacity to motivate employees to meet standards.
  • Ability to handle various restaurant activities simultaneously, excellent communication skills, and coordination of tasks while maintaining operational standards.
