Resident Engineer – Mining Infrastructure

3 to 6 years experience in construction monitoring and quality assurance.

Position requires relocation to the Northern Cape.

Description :

A self-motivated Mid / intermediate Resident Engineer is required to join a team on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will be based on-site in the Northern Cape for the duration of the contract and will report to the Project Manager.

3 to 6 years of relevant experience in construction monitoring and supervision.

BEng (Civil) or BTech (Civil).

Proficiency in construction quality assurance.

Requirements (Mandatory) :

1. Proficiency in project monitoring (time and cost).
2. Strong interpersonal communication skills.
3. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Project, and MS Office.

1. Experience in using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
2. Dynamic, self-motivated, and takes responsibility for tasks.
3. Strong organizational, time-management skills, and attention to detail.
4. Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
6. Ability to read and interpret contract documents, construction drawings, bills of quantities, and project specifications.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Main Duties :

1. Conduct construction site monitoring, including QA / QC, inspection of works, record keeping, material approvals, issuing site instructions, adjudication of claims, and certification of works.
2. Address deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with the Design Engineer.
3. Oversee field site activities and provide technical advice on construction and design.
4. Issue site instructions and correspondence to relevant stakeholders.
5. Measure quantities and compile schedules of quantities.
6. Liaise with the design engineer for clarifications on drawings, construction methodology, and specifications.
7. Attend meetings with clients and contractors.
8. Monitor site progress, evaluate contractor progress reports, and provide schedule feedback to avoid delays.
9. Review and approve contract submittals and payment applications.
10. Adjudicate claims submitted by the contractor.
11. Participate in contract close-out activities.
12. Conduct progress meetings with contractors and relevant personnel, reporting on any issues as necessary.

Terms of Employment :

Fixed-term contract for 18 months.
