Job description

Location :
Wits RHI Lejweleputswa (Free State)

Key performance areas :

  1. Oversee the clinical and non-clinical aspects of a research project
  2. Attend to all clinical components of the clinical trial
  3. Complete participant visits according to protocol
  4. Attend to all medical concerns of participants enrolled in the clinical trial
  5. Ensure clinics are resourced and equipped
  6. Quality control and quality assurance of data in study
  7. Review and sign off laboratory results
  8. Review and refer patients where necessary
  9. Investigate, report and manage participant adverse events
  10. Compile monthly progress reports
  11. Attend to administration as required by project
  12. Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates to ensure optimal staff utilisation and maintenance of sound labour relations
  13. Perform and facilitate performance development and assessments
  14. Identify substandard performance by team members and take necessary corrective action
  15. Train and coach subordinates and team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organisation
  16. Source experts, services for the trial and develop MOU for referral purposes
  17. Report on study specified end points
  18. Disseminate relevant research results to the stakeholders
  19. Study start up, accrual and follow up phase, close out
  20. Data analysis and reporting and Prepare abstracts, papers and posters for conferences and Journal submissions
  21. Set up systems to ensure proper running of the study
  22. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including donors, community members, operating managers, etc.
  23. Assist on other related projects as required
  24. Conduct trainings (internally and externally)
  25. Attend writing series meetings
  26. Develop SOPs
  27. Promote harmony, teamwork and sharing of information
  28. Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  29. Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained

Required minimum education and training :
MBChB with a Public Health Higher Degree

Required minimum work experience :

  1. Minimum 2-3 years experience, inclusive of community service
  2. Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
  3. Training in STIs and HIV management
  4. Progress towards a Master degree in a research field is highly desirable
  5. Experience in clinical trials
  6. Adaptable, flexible, able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  7. Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  1. National and international travel required from time to time
  2. May be required to work long hours overtime / weekends
  3. Working in limited resources environment
  4. Work in a highly pressurized environment
  5. Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  6. Take ownership for driving own career development in attending
  7. Training and development sessions and relevant forums / meetings
  8. Maintain and update knowledge of developments in field and expertise
