Main Purpose of the Position: We are looking for a mature individual who is highly organized and is a fast learner. The person will be responsible for performing daily account recording duties for various clients. In time, we expect this position to learn about the general VAT, employment, and other compliance matters specifically related to South Africa.
Working hours: This is a fully remote position, based out of South Africa. The main requirement is for the person to be available during our RSA core hours: 9am-5pm daily. The person is responsible for ensuring that there is a secure and consistent internet connection to allow for collaboration and work.
Key Deliverables:
- Processing of client accounting in software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Zoho.
- Accurate processing of supplier and sales invoices in accordance with the VAT Act.
- Reconciliation of bank accounts in Xero and to PDF bank statements.
- Month-end journals (payroll, depreciation, accruals, deferred income).
- Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to support the management accounts.
- Preparation of monthly management accounts.
- In time: preparation of payroll, monthly VAT submission, and EMP submission.
Experience Required:
- At least 5 years post-ACCA qualification experience as an accountant in a fast-paced industry.
- Good Excel skills.
- Previously worked on Xero or QuickBooks.
- Understands and has experience with Nigerian Tax matters: employee TAX, Value Added Tax, Withholding and Income tax.
- Has experience in managing people and has previously managed a team.

This position will start with a short-term (3 months) initial trial contract. This will be extended to an annual contract once the initial period has been successfully completed. The position will always remain contractual; i.e., Thrive is not registered as an employer in Nigeria. All local taxes remain the responsibility of the successful candidate.
