Job title: Reliability Engineer

Job Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg

Description

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the estimation, prevention and management of “lifecycle” engineering uncertainty and risk failure that could adversely affect plant or business operations. This includes loss elimination, equipment risk management and introducing reliability improvement initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure compliance with Minopex Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities and statutory requirements.
  2. Work with the Engineering team to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
  3. Adhere to the life cycle asset management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.
  4. Advise on the installation specifications along with commissioning plans.
  5. Develop acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
  6. Participate in the final inspection of new installations.
  7. Define, design, develop, monitor and refine an asset maintenance plan with the primary focus on proactive preventive maintenance.
  8. Utilize predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.
  9. Provide input to a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operations.
  10. Develop engineering solutions for repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operations, including capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues.

Conducting data analysis using techniques such as:

  1. Statistical process control.
  2. Reliability modeling.
  3. Prediction fault tree analysis.
  4. Reliability prediction and improvement.
  5. Reliability culture / human errors / human factors.
  6. Reliability and availability programme plan.
  7. Use of Six Sigma (6σ) methodology.
  8. Conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA).
  9. Failure reporting.
  10. Analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS).

Working with the production team to perform analyses of assets including:

  1. Asset utilization.
  2. Equipment effectiveness and remaining life cycle.
  3. Assist with tracking of Maintenance day planning as well as Project planning and tracking on Microsoft Project Bar chart or Teamwork.

Qualification Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Engineering.
  2. ECSA registration would be beneficial.
  3. Post Graduate qualification in Asset Management.
  4. Qualification in Project Management would be beneficial.
  5. A qualification in condition monitoring would be beneficial.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  1. 5 years’ experience as a Reliability Engineer or Maintenance Engineer in the mining industry with 3 years’ experience in asset management.
  2. In-depth knowledge of asset integrity and reliability.
  3. Good understanding of maintenance work management processes.
  4. Sound working knowledge of different types of mining assets.
  5. Knowledge of relevant Safety and Mining legislation.
  6. Understanding of Engineering best practices and new technologies related to Engineering principles and processes.
  7. Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on condition monitoring software.
  8. Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and the tools associated with failure detection.
  9. Good communication skills and report writing.
  10. Experience in Project Management / Microsoft Project.
  11. Knowledge of CMMS.
  12. Engineering / Technical jobs.
