Job description

A well established company with a presence across Africa is in search of a talented and dedicated Regional HR Manager to join their team based in Johannesburg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all labour relations issues across the region.
  • Develop and implement labour relations strategies to foster a positive working environment while ensuring compliance with local labour laws.
  • Lead negotiations with unions, manage collective bargaining agreements, and resolve labour disputes to maintain harmonious relationships.
  • Provide expert advice and support to line managers on labour relations matters, ensuring consistent policy application across all operations.
  • Serve as a strategic HR partner to regional leadership teams, aligning HR initiatives with business goals.
  • Provide counsel and support to business leaders on HR-related issues, including organisational design, workforce planning, and change management.
  • Work closely with business units to identify HR priorities and develop targeted action plans to drive business performance.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training and development programmes to build capabilities across the region.
  • Identify skills gaps and create targeted learning interventions to enhance employee performance and career growth.
  • Oversee the delivery of training programmes, ensuring they align with the company’s strategic objectives and meet the needs of employees across different locations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and continuously improve programmes to drive organisational development.
  • Lead the implementation of performance management processes across the region, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Train and support managers in conducting effective performance appraisals, setting objectives, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Monitor performance management outcomes and work with leaders to address performance challenges and recognise high performers.
  • Develop and implement talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent across the region.
  • Lead succession planning efforts to ensure a strong pipeline of future leaders within the organisation.
  • Implement and oversee talent development programmes, including leadership development, coaching, and mentoring initiatives.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with the company’s values and goals.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives across the region to enhance job satisfaction, retention, and overall employee well-being.
  • Address complex employee relations issues, providing guidance and support to management in resolving concerns and conflicts.
  • Manage the day-to-day HR operations, including employee records, payroll, benefits administration, and HR information systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour laws and regulations in South Africa, DRC, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR practices to ensure legal compliance and mitigate potential risks.
  • Prepare and manage the HR budget, ensuring effective use of resources and alignment with the company’s financial objectives.
  • Be prepared to travel as necessary to the DRC, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and within South Africa to oversee HR operations and ensure consistency in HR practices across the region.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree or HR certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in human resources, with at least 5 years in a senior HR role, ideally in a regional or multi-country context.
  • Extensive experience in labour relations, training and development, performance management, and talent management.
  • Strong HR business partnering skills, with a proven track record of aligning HR strategies with business objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of labour laws and regulations in South Africa, DRC, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to manage complex HR issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required across the region.
