Job Description
The Quality Officer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously evaluating and improving the Quality Management System.
Responsibilities include:
- Implement, maintain, control, and evaluate the Quality Management System to be ready for external assessment at any time.
- Control and assist Line Management with the management of the ISO 17025 Quality Management System and audit readiness.
- Plan and conduct scheduled inspections and assist with internal audits to ensure compliance with the ISO 17025 QMS schedules.
- Register IR’s, guide and assist with the opening of IR’s, the investigation thereof, conducting root cause analysis, and closing out of IR’s.
- Maintain IR file and assist with corrective and remedial actions and complaints.
- Ensure implementation of corrective and remedial actions and compliance thereto.
- Evaluate improvement systems and assist with trend analysis.
- Monitor and action all activities regarding the Proficiency Testing Schemes.
- Co-ordinate and evaluate the Proficiency Testing program.
- Assume accountability and responsibility in ensuring that all remedial actions/complaints/IR findings are closed out within agreed timeframes.
- Evaluate the monthly QA/QC charts and advise on any possible actions to minimize outliers and bias results.
- Create quality awareness at all staff levels.
- Assist with training and keep training matrixes up to date, reminding Line Management when training is due.
- Assist Line Management with management reviews.
- Tailor procedures and processes for reliability and maintainability – manage the doc change process as per QMS.
- Conduct daily/monthly checks on the QC’s – CRM in use, QC charts, verifications, quality checks, calibrations, and efficiencies.
- Daily report back to the Lab Supervisor on the QC status.
- Weekly report to Quality Manager on the quality status of the facility.
- Ensure workstation books are kept in good order at all workstations.
- Assist with the scheduling and conducting of monthly Quality meetings.
- Compile a monthly Quality System report for the Lab Supervisor.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS Quality Management System.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications
Degree/Diploma in Quality Management and/or Chemistry. TQMS. Working knowledge of ISO 17025.
Additional Information
Minimum of 3 years in the field of Analytical Services; an understanding of the Coal services would be an advantage. Fully acquainted with LIMS system. Full knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO 17025). Full knowledge of internal auditing is an advantage.
