Job description

Main job function

  • Responsible for fulfilling the role of Quality Engineer by monitoring and controlling in-house product quality.
  • To design, develop and implement quality standards for all products, including existing and new products.
  • To ensure that the customer receives a product that meets the quality standard.
  • To ensure correct application of customer-specific requirements.
  • To quickly and effectively act when non-conformances are found by reporting and supporting countermeasure activities of nonconformance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Interpret and apply external quality standards.
    1. Liaise with the customer to clarify the requirements of their supplier quality system.
    2. Make recommendations to modify customer part specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost-effective production.
    3. Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques.
    4. Facilitate any changes to processes with the relevant process owners.
    5. Monitor any changes in industry standards and facilitate the implementation of any changes.
    6. Ensure the manufacturing process complies with standards and procedures.
    7. Define quality procedures in line with operating staff.
    8. Maintain and improve product quality.
    9. Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerances, and materials related issues.
    10. Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
    11. Develop and submit PPAP documents for new products to meet customer requirements.
    12. Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes.
    13. Review and analyze results.
    14. Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.
    15. Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems during new tool or process design and startup.
    16. Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring.
    17. Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
    18. Maintain Control Plans and FMEAs throughout the life of the part.
    19. Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
    20. Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Tool room to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
    21. Lead PPM improvement plan for strategic customers.
  2. Document Control
    1. Keep a database of customer specific process requirements.
    2. Ensure correct documents are used for all activities.
  3. Reporting to Management
    1. Report monthly on KPI adherence to manager.
    2. Prepare and present reports to monitor projects’ status and other items of special interest.
    3. Track and measure progress key identified problem areas.
    4. Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports.
    5. Analyze and distribute statistical information.
    6. Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, including failed processes, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
  4. Monitoring Supplier Quality
    1. Work with suppliers through company’s purchasing to set up a corrective action process.
    2. Measure and follow up to ensure that identified problems are resolved.
    3. Specify quality requirements of raw materials suppliers.
  5. KPA’s
    1. Adherence to the department’s key performance areas which are safety, quality, cost, and training.
  6. Auditing certification
    1. Adherence to auditing management systems IATF16949 and ISO14001.

Qualifications

  • National Diploma Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical tertiary qualification/s – Quality or Engineering related.

Experience

  • Min 3 years of Industrial/Automotive experience.
  • At least min 2 years in quality control/assurance/engineering.

Requirements

  • Good problem analysis and solving methods.
  • Experience in the use of SPC and continuous improvement methods.
  • Microsoft Office – Intermediate.
  • Use of Internet - Basic.
  • Understanding of Customer portals.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
