Location Profile
Jennings Street School is located in the South Western Victoria Region 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD in Laverton. The school is a prep to year 12 autism specific school with 120 students ranging in ages from 5-18. There is a strong focus on student well-being and building effective home school partnerships. Professional Learning Teams and an integrated service model including Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Psychologists form the basis for quality teaching, building staff instructional capacity, high standards of professional engagement, a strong sense of collegiality, and a culture of excellence. Jennings Street School currently has 16 classrooms across three learning centres and a team of Allied Health that work within each centre.
A part time (0.6) contract exists at Jennings Street School for a psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with other occupational therapists, speech pathologists, teachers, and teacher assistants. This position would best suit a psychologist who is highly motivated, organised, and passionate, with a can-do attitude to work independently and in a team. Services are focused on collaboration and consultation with teaching staff, the wellbeing team, and leadership to meet selected students’ learning and wellbeing needs within the school environment.
The psychologists support the school and teachers in the identification and development of educational, social and emotional programs providing prevention, intervention and post intervention strategies, particularly in respect to students who are vulnerable, or have additional needs. The psychologists conduct Functional Behaviour Analysis (FBA) to inform interventions and management plans such as Behaviour Support Plans and Behaviour Response Plans. They also design and implement individualised treatment plans, liaising with the student's care team around the assessment feedback, intervention strategies and progress. This includes teachers, team leaders, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and families. In addition, a key role for our psychologists is to assess students who require ongoing psychological intervention for referral to external agencies. Additionally, they conduct cognitive and diagnostic assessment using tools such as the Vineland and Wechsler Intelligence Scale Fifth Edition and provide direct intervention to students through referrals from wellbeing.
A graduate or post-graduate qualification in psychology and full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA) – Psychology Board. Note that it is a legal requirement for a psychologist to be registered with AHPRA and the practice of psychology cannot be performed without such registration being confirmed.
Applicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction. Such requests will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to the operational requirements of the school.
