A leading energy infrastructure company is seeking a Project Director to lead the end-to-end delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Africa. This is a senior leadership position for an experienced professional with a deep background in renewables and a strong track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure from development through to operations.
The Project Director will oversee a portfolio of projects - driving alignment across commercial, technical, legal, and stakeholder teams. The role is accountable for execution strategy, performance, and delivery against key commercial and operational milestones.
This position requires someone who has already operated at director level, with direct experience managing multi-million dollar projects, lender negotiations, and complex EPC interfaces across multiple jurisdictions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Advanced qualifications or certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are an advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in the energy sector, with a focus on delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- End-to-end project execution experience from late-stage development through financial close, construction, and COD.
- Deep understanding of EPC, PPA, and O&M contract management, with experience negotiating commercial terms.
- Familiarity with lender technical requirements, due diligence processes, and financial close documentation.
- Strong command of regulatory frameworks, permitting, land acquisition, and grid connection processes in emerging markets.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams, including contractors, engineers, legal and finance professionals.
- Proven record in budget control, cost forecasting, and performance monitoring on large capital infrastructure projects.
- Willingness to travel across Africa and internationally, as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct the delivery of multiple renewable energy projects through construction and into operations.
- Lead contract negotiations and alignment across PPA, EPC, and O&M agreements.
- Oversee coordination with investors, lenders, regulators, advisors, and internal teams.
- Manage project execution strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and financing requirements.
- Guide risk identification and mitigation efforts across permitting, land, technical, and regulatory domains.
- Ensure compliance with project licensing, permitting, and interconnection milestones.
- Support the transition from financial close to execution, ensuring handover readiness across functions.
- Maintain oversight of construction activities, including cost, schedule, and quality performance.
- Provide executive-level reporting on project progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Ensure safety, ESG, and quality standards are embedded in project execution.
- Manage project close-out and transition to operations, ensuring smooth handover and asset readiness.
