Job Description

The Project Accountant is responsible for tracking, managing, and reporting financial information for specific projects. This includes overseeing the budgeting process, ensuring accurate invoicing, monitoring project expenses, and providing regular financial reports to stakeholders. The Project Accountant plays a key role in ensuring financial compliance, mitigating risks, and supporting project success from a financial standpoint.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for projects, forecasting revenue, costs, and cash flow
  • Provide project-based profitability analysis, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions
  • Work with project managers to ensure accurate budgeting and alignment of financial forecasts with project timelines
  • Support strategic decision-making by analyzing the financial impact of potential project changes or new opportunities
  • Maintain and manage the General Ledger, ensuring all entries are recorded accurately and on time
  • Prepare and post journal entries for project-related transactions, accruals, and adjustments
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Ensure the trial balance is accurate and supports month-end and year-end financial close processes
  • Create Sales Orders in the ERP system as per signed contracts
  • Prepare and issue invoices to clients, ensuring all billable items are accurately captured
  • Coordinate with project managers to track project progress and ensure appropriate billing
  • Process incoming payments and manage accounts receivable
  • Prepare and present detailed project profitability reports for stakeholders, analyzing revenue, costs, margins, and trends
  • Conduct periodic reviews of project financials to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement
  • Ensure all project-related financial activities align with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Essential Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project accounting, FP&A, or a similar role, with a strong understanding of project-based financial operations
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in NetSuite ERP software and advanced Excel skills
  • GL Accounting Skills: Experience with maintaining General Ledger accounts, preparing trial balances, and supporting month-end close
  • FP&A and Profitability Reporting: Proven experience in creating financial models, conducting profitability analyses, and presenting actionable insights
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data and generate actionable insights
