The modules Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transport Economics, Operations Research and Business Analytics are lectured and researched in the Department of Logistics at Stellenbosch University (SU). This role requires an incumbent with strong expertise, experience, and skills in logistics and supply chain management, with a particular focus on logistics operations, enabling systems, strategy, performance, governance and regulation.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Undergraduate teaching in the modules offered in the BCom (Management Sciences) programme with Logistics and Supply Chain Management as focal area.
  • Teaching and supervision at postgraduate level (honours and specifically masters and doctoral);
  • Fostering collaborative subject-related research and publication efforts with other staff members.
  • Providing relevant academic, professional, and community engagement services to the University and broader community, including knowledge sharing, industry collaboration, capacity building, and social impact initiatives.
  • Developing course materials and curricula.
  • Participating in departmental and faculty governance activities.
  • Providing academic leadership in the Department.
  • Mentoring and advising junior staff members and students on teaching and research.
  • Collaborating with other Faculty members and departments.
  • Experimenting with new approaches of blended and online teaching.
  • The ability and willingness to fulfill the role of Head of the Department.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

  • A relevant doctorate in logistics management and supply chain management.
  • More than two years’ teaching experience in the field of logistics and supply chain management.
  • Proven record and experience of doctoral supervision.
  • Sound ability to lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Leading research and publications in accredited international journals in the field of logistics and supply chain management.
  • The demonstrable ability to render relevant academic, professional, and community engagement services to the University and broader community, including knowledge sharing, industry collaboration, capacity building, and social impact initiatives.
  • Proven digital literacy, including proficiency with the various Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.), learning management systems (e.g. Moodle), and data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Atlas.Ti, etc.).
  • The ability to teach in a multi-lingual environment.
  • Proven record of the ability to develop course materials and curricula.
  • Experience in new approaches to teaching, blended learning for industry and online approaches.
  • The ability to function in diverse groups and environments.

Short-listed candidates (those invited for interviews) may be expected to present a lecture on a designated topic to members of the Department of Logistics.
