MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To deliver safe, comprehensive and quality nursing care according to the Scope of Practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

1. Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multi-professional team.
2. Identify, prevent and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
3. Facilitate a positive patient experience by creating a conducive environment.
4. Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions.
5. Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
6. Ensure that all utilised stock and equipment are accurately charged.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Degree / Diploma in General Nursing.

DESIRED EDUCATION: Midwifery; Post graduate certificate / diploma in relevant specialty area.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years' experience working in a Surgical Ward.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working with stoma / stoma therapy patients.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

1. Basic life support trained (ACLS; ATLS; PALS training for specialised wards).
2. Develop / modify a nursing care plan.
3. Infection prevention and control.
4. Nursing processes and procedures.
5. Pharmacology.
6. Scientific nursing principles and process.
