Production Manager BLOW MOULDING / PLASTICS / MANUFACTURING- ISANDO

Purpose Statement

To oversee the production process, coordinating all production activities and operations. To ensure that the manufacturing process runs efficiently, meets quality standards and customer deadlines.

Position in the Organisation

1st Line Manager 1st level - General Manager

Position - Production Manager

Subordinate 1st level - Production personnel, inclusive but not limited to supervisors, assistant supervisors, etc.

POSITION DESCRIPTION - Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position:

1. Production Coordination

  • Implement production schedules to meet customer demands.
  • Coordinate production activities with other departments.
  • Allocate resources including personnel, equipment and material to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor production processes and workflow, adjusting schedules and resources as necessary to address bottlenecks and delays.
  • Analyze production processes to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction while optimizing efficiency and productivity.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of production issues and implement corrective action.
  • Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation.

2. Personnel Management

  • Ensure that subordinates record and report quality problems immediately.
  • Manage subordinates in line with company policies, procedures and industry collective agreement.
  • Responsible to lead, motivate, train and control any allocated persons.
  • Monitor and direct workflow of subordinates.
  • Hold regular performance reviews to discuss performance against objectives, counseling employees where performance is not in line with the standards.
  • Motivate team to develop with a focus on ongoing improvement. Implement good ideas, give credit where due, support, counsel and discipline where necessary.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of workplace safety.
  • Practical hands-on passing on of skill (Show and do).
  • Guide team to ensure that members deliver output and performance in line with company quality standards.
  • Communicate and confirm values and goals and clarify roles on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactively communicate consequences of misconduct to team members.
  • Conduct discipline and counseling where necessary, staying within the limits of orderly actions in terms of the disciplinary code.

3. Health and Safety

  • Ensure organizational health and safety standards and safe working practices are maintained.
  • Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
  • Report any accidents, incidents and near misses.

4. Food (Product) Safety:

  • Apply the site's food safety principles and standards.
  • Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
  • Comply to and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Company's FSMS (Food Safety Management System).

5. Quality

  • Apply the company's quality principles and standards.
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

6. Reporting and Administration

  • All reports and administration related to the position.

7. General

  • Ensure team knows what to do and where to find information if you are not available.
  • Inform yourself about and apply the company's principles and standards.
  • Set an example, be a role model for your team and others in the way you work and behave.

8. Self-development and Growth

  • Realistic assessment of own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses.
  • The employee accepts that he/she may be required to carry out any other tasks as required by management based on operational requirements.

JOB EVALUATION CRITERIA

Knowledge and Skills

Secondary Education: Grade 12

Tertiary Education: (including Diplomas, Certificates and Degrees) - NQF 6 Production Management / Operations Management

Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in a Production Manager role in the manufacturing industry.

  • Plastic Manufacturing.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office products and software programmes, particularly Excel.
