Job title: Production Packaging Manager

Job Location: KwaZulu-Natal, Durban
Deadline: April 04, 2025

Job Purpose

  • Lead and manage the Factory Productions team, by working with team members, to set priorities, work plans and deliverables and holds team members responsible for their performance and delivery of the work plan. Ensures a high level of quality of performance.
  • Works with senior management to develop and implement short, medium and long term goals, policies and strategies for Production optimization.
  • Designs, manages and updates general policies and procedures.
  • Directs and co-ordinates activities concerned with production of company products in the plant.
  • Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Plans and directs activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Co-ordinates production activities with Tech Transfer, procurement, maintenance and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machine and equipment.
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.

Accountabilities

  • Reviews budget input from Section Head and compiles Draft Budget before submission to General Manager and Finance.
  • Review of salary increases.
  • Review of manpower resources.
  • Remuneration structures.
  • Reviews and audits monthly cost center performance, reporting on deviations, to ensure cost effectiveness and maximizing profitability.

Accountabilities 2

  • Authorises Product Routings Costs.
  • Review monthly OPP / Plan.
  • Monthly agree on targets, re-forecasting, adjusting manpower, equipment and capacity requirements as per Production scheduling.
  • Accountable for deviations and corrective actions.
  • Compiles month end and yearend reports.
  • Reviews Capex motivations.

Customer Service

  • All queries are followed up and resolved in the shortest possible timeframe within policy framework.
  • A professional attitude is displayed when responding to a customer's needs.
  • Methods for improving customer services are proposed, developed and continuously updated.
  • Internal and External customers are constantly updated as to the progress of their queries.
  • Provide input into Tender process i.e Product / Capacity etc.

Accountabilities 4

  • Ensure adherence to GMP Guidelines in line with regulating authorities requirements eg. PIC.
  • Maintenance of MCC license.
  • Supports the use of change control systems for all installations and modifications and completes outstanding stages.
  • Product complaints and recalls, investigate and initiate corrective action.
  • Review Rand value of product write offs and implement corrective action.

  • Review and authorises SOP’s.
  • Initiates / set targets and review Quality training and development.
  • Supports Quality Awareness culture.
  • Responsible for development of Section Heads and production staff.
  • Reviews business plan targets.
  • Performance review process.

  • When accidents occur ensure compliance with investigations and reporting.
  • The work area is safe and clean as per company policy.
  • Liaise with Safety Officers regularly on improvements and initiatives that eliminate non-compliance.
  • Learning achievements are acknowledged to improve staff performance and motivation.
  • Team effectiveness is facilitated and assessed against standards and contingencies applied when required.
  • On the job assessment and feedback occur timely.

Accountabilities 7

  • Performance issues are accurately identified and action is instituted.
  • Potential conflict is resolved according to IR procedures.
  • Disciplinary action is taken according to the IR policy – in case of extreme poor performance and inappropriate behaviour by staff.
  • Staff performance is monitored against standards and regular feedback is provided.
  • Individual goals are developed and aligned to team goals and roles are clearly defined as per role profile.
  • Performance discussions are held regularly to identify learning requirements.

Accountabilities 8

  • Ensure First Aiders and H&S Reps are incorporated into shift requirements.
  • Act upon Safety and Health problems identified and reported.
  • Hazardous situations are reported or resolved immediately.
  • Safety and health equipment is available and ready for use.
  • Incidents / accidents are prevented by effective operating of equipment and machinery, and by following health and safety procedures.

Education Qualification

  • Matric / grade 12.
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification within Pharmacy / Engineering Chemistry.
  • Formal Business Management qualifications an advantage.
  • Degree in Pharmacy / Engineering / Chemistry / Production / Operations Management an advantage.
  • 5 - 8 years experience in an internationally accredited Pharmaceutical Manufacturing environment demonstrating strong leadership ability.
  • Computer literate – MS office, MRP system essential – Syspro an advantage.
