Our client, a leading provider in electronics manufacturing, is seeking a skilled Process Technician to optimize and manage production processes across Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Printed Board Assembly (PBA), final assembly, and harnessing operations for their Factory in Pinetown, KZN. The Process Technician will ensure that production runs efficiently, equipment is properly maintained, and that all quality and safety standards are met. This role also involves designing and maintaining jigs and fixtures, calibrating equipment, and creating work instructions for production teams.
Educational Background: Matric + Technical certification or coursework in electronics, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing technology preferred.
Years of Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a Process Technician role or a similar position in electronics manufacturing. Hands-on experience with SMT, PBA, final assembly, and harnessing processes is critical and non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities:
First-Off Build Approval: Inspect and test first-off builds to ensure they meet design and quality standards. Document and provide feedback for necessary adjustments before full production.
Stencils Management: Set up, align, and maintain stencils for SMT machines to ensure accurate solder paste application.
Repairs and Maintenance: Perform preventive and routine maintenance on SMT machines and assembly lines. Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions, escalating complex issues when needed.
Jigs and Fixtures: Design, fabricate, inspect, and maintain jigs and fixtures to meet production requirements.
Process Issues: Identify and resolve inefficiencies or issues in production processes, implementing corrective actions.
Production Process Design and Optimisation: Develop and enhance production processes to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity. Collaborate with engineering and production teams for smooth integration.
Calibration: Regularly calibrate production equipment, maintaining detailed records of all activities.
Work Instructions: Create, update, and train staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for SMT, PBA, final assembly, and harnessing processes.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of process changes, maintenance, calibrations, and submit regular reports on equipment and production performance.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
Skills Required:
Proficiency in operating and maintaining SMT, PBA, final assembly, and harnessing equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to resolve process and equipment issues.
Experience designing and optimizing production processes for efficiency and quality improvements.

Work Environment:
Manufacturing floor with exposure to production equipment, electronic components, and assembly processes.
May involve shift work, including evenings, nights, or weekends, based on production needs.

Capability to lift to 20 kg for handling equipment and materials.
Strong hand-eye coordination for machinery operation, handling components, and repairs.

Ability to move around the production floor to access various workstations and equipment.
