Process Technician

An opportunity exists within Safal Steel for a Process Technician(2x) to be based in KwaZulu Natal Region (Cato Ridge). The position reports to Process Engineer.

Drive process improvements with regards to cost, quality, throughput, training, and safety.

1. Compliance with health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations.
2. Drive and manage business and process improvement projects in conjunction with all departments.
3. Assist in general training of production employees.
4. Perform project and contractor management.
5. Drive safety and housekeeping.
6. Co-compile and execute strategies for improvement on plants.
7. Good understanding of company business models and processes.
8. Execute development and plant improvement projects.
9. Excellent understanding of quality management systems.
10. Experience in root cause analysis.
11. Process modelling and digitization.
12. Manage, execute, and implement capital and operational projects.
13. Work with other Engineering disciplines.
14. Training and mentoring of candidates and process employees.
15. Application of good engineering principles.
16. Assistance with process-related plant issues.
17. Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
18. Working knowledge of rolling of steel, metal coating, colour coating, roll forming, and other related processes.
19. Compiling of detailed technical specifications.
20. Solid knowledge of Engineering principles, processes, systems, procedures, and practices.
21. Proficient in official business language, with good written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum academic qualification: Metallurgical or Industrial Engineering National Diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications as an added advantage: Business studies.

Professional registration: Pr. Tech.

Lean Manufacturing knowledge.

Minimum work experience (years): 3 Years post ECSA approved candidate technician programme.

Preferred work experience (years): 3-5 years post qualification experience in Steel or related industry with proven track record of BI project implementation.
