West London NHS Trust is seeking a motivated and conscientious PMVA instructor at Broadmoor Hospital (High Secure Services) to join and work alongside the existing team of instructors on a full time basis in the PMVA department.
Applicants must meet the criterion as defined within the West London NHS Trusts' Professional Code of Practice (PCP) for level one PMVA Instructors / Tutors.
Applicants must be up to date with current PMVA teaching practices, in addition to both local and national guidance in relation to violence reduction including the reduction of restrictive practices.
Main duties of the job
Essential to this role is the ability to preserve the respect and dignity of service users and staff in relation to all aspects of PMVA interventions, acting as an ambassador for the PMVA Department and the Trust.
The successful applicant(s) must:
- Have current experience in High Secure Services and the needs of our patient and staff group.
- Be able to demonstrate that they have the required level of skills and knowledge to support / facilitate the daily delivery of PMVA training programmes.
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to assist with the development of proactive strategies and interventions to reduce violence and aggression and restrictive practices.
- Hold a substantive contract and be working full time within a direct care role at Broadmoor Hospital.
- Have current Line Manager and Senior Clinical Manager approval to support your application.
- Maintain a good level of physical fitness.
- Be up to date with their mandatory training.

PHYSICAL MAKE-UP
- Excellent attendance record.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Senior Specialist Tutor certification (internal training-able to attain) RRN standards Certification.
- Teaching & Assessing Qualification minimum level 3 (or equivalent).
- Care certificates / qualifications (or equivalent).
- Other professional clinical/care qualifications, NVQ/DIP/BSC, PGDip or higher.
- Certificate in Further Education and Training (CertEd), PGDip HE).
EXPERIENCE
- Experience of working within an inpatient Mental Health (High Secure Services) setting.
- Experience of working with clinical teams and individual patients to reduce restrictive practices and improve quality of life for patients.
- Evidence of working in or delivering in specialist area (PMVA/PPE/MOE).
- Experience in incident management.
- Experience in High Risk Escorting PMVA/PPE Advisor (or able to attain).
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of contemporary issues in PMVA and violence prevention and reduction.
- Risks associated with Restraint.
- National Best practice standards/guidance.
- Local policies and emergency contingency plans.
- Understanding of theory and practice of minimising restrictive practice/conflict and containment.
