A vacancy exists for a Pharmacy Manager based at Life St George's Hospital in Gqeberha, reporting to Reshma Vanmali, Hospital Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the pharmacy services within the hospital environment by ensuring that quality pharmaceutical services, financial objectives, legislative compliance and people management requirements are achieved to the required standards.
Critical Outputs
Effective governance and medication risk management
- Implement Pharmacy best operating practices related to medication safety management;
- Achieve an improved overall medication error in the context of 100% reporting.
- Ensure compliance with SAPC, DOH, OHSC, and LHC legal and professional standards.
Effective quality management
- Drive enhanced performance in the Antimicrobial Stewardship and Clinical Pharmacy Programs in the hospital;
- Drive optimised implementation of and compliance with the LHC quality management system;
- Achieve required customer service levels, manage customer complaints, and drive continuous improvement.
Effective financial and asset management
- Achieve hospital budgeted financial measures relating to pharmacy;
- Actively manage the cost of sales of pharmaceuticals in line with revenue and budget;
- Implement LHC pharmaceutical product conversions and cost efficiency opportunities;
- Identify and implement initiatives to enhance cost effective care provision with optimal patient outcomes;
- Manage product evaluations and complaints;
- Build effective working relationships with doctors and the multifunctional hospital team;
- Drive identified growth, sustainability, and process efficiency initiatives;
- Achieve stock management targets (Stock holding, Deadstock, Stock count adjustments, IDSO’s);
- Drive the appropriate management of consignment and loan stock;
- Drive the improvement of operational efficiencies impacting cost of sales (for e.g. open orders, negative stock, PPV);
- Manage non-recoverable utilization within budget and ensure cost reduction;
- Manage overheads aligned to budget.
Effective people management
- Demonstrate visible leadership aligned with the company values, operating model, and strategy;
- Recruit, retain, motivate, and develop pharmacy staff;
- Participate in the LHC intern and pharmacist assistant training programs;
- Manage optimal performance of pharmacy staff to ensure delivery of critical outputs;
- Provide direction and inspire positive work behaviour in the team;
- Drive regular performance feedback to staff during regular 1-1s and JPMs;
- Ensure continuous professional development (WSP targets and CPD compliance is achieved).
Requirements
- Gr 12 Senior Certificate;
- B Pharm/Dip.Pharm and current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council;
- Relevant private hospital experience will be a strong advantage;
- Understanding of relevant legislation, operating structures and relationships within a hospital environment;
- Proven leadership and people management experience required;
- Computer proficiency (MS office).
