Permanent - Sales Consultant - Ekurhuleni (East Rand) - South Africa
Reporting to the Sales and Marketing Director, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out the Sales and Marketing functions of the company. This includes customer liaison, product awareness, sales, marketing, information, advice, service levels, and problem-solving. The position also involves overseeing the processing of customer orders and inquiries to ensure correct products are delivered timely at the correct delivery address with commercially viable margins. Continuous customer feedback throughout the order/enquiry process is essential, acting as the liaison between customers and internal structures.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The job incumbent will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining a client contact matrix with emphasis on key decision makers.
- Developing and managing a client visit schedule.
- Liaising with customers on pricing issues.
- Assisting the Sales and Marketing Director with the preparation of annual budgets.
- Assisting with obtaining accurate forecasting from customers.
- Actively seeking new growth opportunities.
- Liaising with the internal sales department to ensure service levels are continually improved.
- Sending price notifications to relevant customer representatives once prices have been determined.
Customer Sales Needs:
- Understanding customer needs.
- Informing customers of the company's product range.
- Liaising and assisting customers with technical advice.
- Seeking innovative methods to improve product range with the assistance of applications engineering staff.
- Offering any other technical support required by the customer.
Customer Service Needs:
- Arranging and attending monthly customer meetings.
- Maintaining and improving customer relations and managing customer satisfaction surveys.
- Addressing customer complaints raised against the company.
- Creating product awareness amongst customers.
- Offering training to customers on all aspects of the product range.
- Instituting frequent meetings with customers' training departments to ensure proper training on the use of the company's products.
Marketing Department Functions:
- Working closely with the Sales and Marketing Director regarding customer advice.
- Attending customer meetings and site visits with the Sales and Marketing Director as needed.
- Assisting during Contract Review and issuing of Tenders.
- Managing the planning and execution of exhibitions.
- Preparing exhibition displays.
- Assisting with all marketing material.

Minimum Qualifications:
It is preferable for the candidate to have a technical qualification (diploma or degree) in Civil Engineering. Sales/Marketing type qualifications will be advantageous.
Formal Training, Experience Required and Key Qualities:
- Good understanding of the rail industry.
- Ability to promote and sell technical products.
- Ability to deal with customers at various seniority levels.
- Product knowledge and knowledge of customer needs.
- Familiarity with Computer Programs: SAGE, Windows, Word, Excel, etc.
- Excellent communication skills in English with proven persuasive power.
- First-rate telephone etiquette and work ethic.
- Self-motivated individual with strong business acumen, good time management, and task prioritization.
- Proven ability to work under pressure on strict deadlines.
- Knowledge of sales principles and practices, customer service principles, and basic business principles.
