Reporting to Branch Manager

Purpose of Position:

Require a mature young, responsible and customer-oriented person to join the team as a workshop and service technician. Vacuum pumps are a critical part of our customer’s process, so if they need to be repaired or serviced, then a quick and very accurate response is critical. The successful candidate will need to manage many issues at once and respond effectively to customer needs both during normal work hours and outside of normal hours when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on work in the service center.
  • Strip, clean, test, and build vacuum pumps; book in all pumps as per procedure upon delivery and inform the line manager.
  • Liaise with customers professionally, discussing fault finding and servicing of their pumps, and informing them about service timelines.
  • Travel to clients for onsite servicing and repairs when required.
  • Ensure completion of the sales process from enquiry to successful repair, delivery, and payment in coordination with the team.
  • Create job cards and quotes.
  • Proactively follow up on offers and liaise with customers regarding order statuses.
  • Retrieve order numbers, process proforma invoices, and follow through with implementation.
  • Order local buy-out products for service.
  • Prepare spares and pumps for delivery/collection by customers.
  • Be computer literate; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Pastel is advantageous.
  • Log data for the service center and track monthly statistics.
  • Update company SharePoint documents and lean kit daily.
  • File documents.
  • Follow existing procedures and implement new/improved procedures in the workshop.
  • Understand basic conditions of employment and adhere to them when dealing with staff.
  • Work overtime when necessary.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and undergo training.
  • Understand stock and spares levels.
  • Report to the senior technician and branch manager.
  • Manage workshop assistants.
  • Travel overseas for training may be required.
  • Occasional travel to branches in CT, Jhb, and PE.
  • Assist with deliveries and collections to the branch.
  • Assist customers with inquiries via email, phone, and in person.
  • Source parts for non-company products.
  • Assist walk-in customers.
  • Provide follow-up dates and actions for next service.

Other:

  • Drive continuous improvement and lean development within the business unit.
  • Assist in meeting the branch's key performance indicators.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements in the workshop.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by senior management.
  • Duties are subject to change.
  • Develop the company's business in the province by practicing value-added selling and upselling.
  • Generate leads for key segments and uncover new opportunities.
  • Assist in growing the number of serviced pumps with follow-up dates and actions.

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 or N6, preferably with a trade as Millwright or Fitter & Turner.

Experience/Knowledge:

3-5 years’ experience working in a service workshop.

Mechanical and electrical experience working on pumps and electrical motors (preferably vacuum pumps).

Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, including:
