As a Buyer, you are required to procure goods, materials, components, or services according to the scope of work and the material description. This has to be in line with market-related costs, good quality with zero defects, at agreed lead times, and within SPZA standard purchase terms and procurement policy.

Specific tasks and responsibilities

1. Request for Quotes: Research and identify suitable vendors, understand negotiation techniques, and conduct performance reviews on suppliers.
2. Sourcing: Negotiate offered pricing and search for alternative supplies if necessary.
3. Compare quotes and perform quote comparison analysis to recommend competitive quotes.
4. Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders in a timely manner.
5. Expedite order requirements with suppliers to ensure that supply meets client requirements and that vendor or shipment problems are dealt with.
6. Liaise with operational and quality control personnel to ensure compliance.

Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required

1. National Diploma or higher certificate in Procurement/Logistics/Supply Chain Management (NQF4 or 5), Diploma, or Degree. CIPS qualification advantageous.
2. 3 or more years of exposure to procurement as a Buyer.
3. Exposure to relevant Heavy Manufacturing, Mining, or Engineering knowledge.
4. SAP proficiency is highly important and non-negotiable.
5. Zero defects of components received.
6. Supplier relationship management and identification of savings opportunities.

Skills (must be able to)
- Procurement or Strategic Sourcing Principles
- Experience in the Heavy Manufacturing industry is an advantage.
