As a Buyer, you are required to procure goods, materials, components, or services according to the scope of work and the material description. This has to be in line with market-related costs, good quality with zero defects, at agreed lead times, and within SPZA standard purchase terms and procurement policy.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
- Request for Quotes: Research and identify suitable vendors, understand negotiation techniques, and conduct performance reviews on suppliers.
- Sourcing: Negotiate offered pricing and search for alternative supplies if necessary.
- Compare quotes and perform quote comparison analysis to recommend competitive quotes.
- Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders in a timely manner.
- Expedite order requirements with suppliers to ensure that supply meets client requirements and that vendor or shipment problems are dealt with.
- Liaise with operational and quality control personnel to ensure compliance.
Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required
- National Diploma or higher certificate in Procurement/Logistics/Supply Chain Management (NQF4 or 5), Diploma, or Degree. CIPS qualification advantageous.
- 3 or more years of exposure to procurement as a Buyer.
- Exposure to relevant Heavy Manufacturing, Mining, or Engineering knowledge.
- SAP proficiency is highly important and non-negotiable.
- Zero defects of components received.
- Supplier relationship management and identification of savings opportunities.
Skills (must be able to)
- Procurement or Strategic Sourcing Principles
- Experience in the Heavy Manufacturing industry is an advantage.
