Payroll Services South Africa is responsible for the administration of Payroll and Third-Party Processing for approximately 500 employees.
What is the role?
The South African Payroll manager reports to the UK Payroll Manager based in London (UK).
The scope of activities includes responsibility for the end-to-end South African Payroll Processes to help ensure an accurate and timely monthly execution. This may incorporate error resolution, data issues, minimising risk, expected values per policy, successful postings and on time payments to both employees and third parties. The administration of all relevant tax and social security payments and reporting, management and oversight of the end-to-end controls framework for South Africa, as well as the functional management of the Shell People Payroll (SAP) application and Workday.
In addition, the Payroll Manager South Africa is accountable for the overall oversight & approval of the South African payroll and the actions performed by the Shared Services team(s) based in Poland and Manila.
The Shared Services are responsible for the successful execution of all payroll related activities, and watches over the quality and integrity of the payroll.
Responsibilities:
- All aspects associated to the scope of South African Payroll and participate in local and global projects and initiatives.
- Actively engaging in our local, regional and global organization, utilizing virtual connects to build working relationships with key contacts, participate in and promote a culture of innovation and Enterprise First behaviors with a continuous improvement (CI) mindset.
- Sharing best practices with the team and strive for improvements in service delivery and ensure accountability for evergreen end-to-end process documentation for business continuity purposes.
- Taking a proactive approach towards the implementation of new payroll related legislation, policy changes and portfolio changes.
- The preparation and submission of monthly and annual statutory reporting.
- Liaising with various internal (i.e. HR & Finance colleagues, HR in Country, Policy Benefits & Services, IMTC (International Mobility and Tax Compliance), Employment Tax, Employee’s and Line Managers) and external (i.e. SARS, Auditors) stakeholders to resolve complex cases and provide exceptional customer service.
- Ensuring all Financial Controls and Data Privacy Rules are accurately executed to fully address the business risk in an environment with high monetary materiality and safeguard from Data Privacy breaches.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance to Group Records Management retention protocol, preparation of Internal Audit reference documents and response to External Governing Bodies requests.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives, locally and globally, as required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to enable the development and oversight of the team, with a good balance between managerial skills and an eye for detail and quality.
What we need from you?
- Qualification in finance, economics or business administration or a like.
- Must have at least 5 yrs of relevant experience in end-to-end Payroll.
- Experience in a large company is an added advantage.
- Controls/finance background advantageous.
- Knowledge of South African tax and social security laws is essential.
- Stakeholder and Employee centric attitude.
- Knowledge of Workday and SAP systems will advantageous.
