Oracle / Ab Initio Data Engineer

Oracle / Ab Initio Data Engineer required in Johannesburg.

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer with expertise in Oracle PL/SQL, Ab Initio, and Power BI to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data solutions that support business intelligence and analytics needs.

This role requires a deep understanding of database management, ETL processes, and data visualisation techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimise PL/SQL scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
• Manage Oracle databases, ensuring performance tuning, security, and maintenance.
• Design, build, and deploy ETL solutions using Ab Initio, including developing Graphs, Plans, and Metadata Hub components.
• Create, maintain, and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards, incorporating DAX and Power Query.
• Implement data models that enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
• Troubleshoot and optimise existing data pipelines to ensure high performance and reliability.
• Ensure data governance, quality, and security best practices are followed.

Requirements:

• Strong PL/SQL expertise, including query optimisation, indexing, and database tuning.
• Extensive experience with Ab Initio ETL tools, including development, debugging, and deployment.
• Proven experience in Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX, and Power Query.
• Knowledge of data warehousing principles, OLAP, and dimensional modelling.
• Experience with performance tuning of ETL and database processes.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve data issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Additional Criteria:

• Experience working in enterprise-scale data environments.
• Exposure to big data technologies and tools is a plus.
• Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.

Qualifications & Certification:

• A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Commerce, or equivalent.
• Relevant certifications in Oracle, Ab Initio, or Power BI will be beneficial.
