Simera Sense is fast becoming a leading mid to high-resolution earth observation camera supplier for CubeSats and small satellites.

This role offers the chance to push the limits of what is possible with optical payloads in the CubeSat domain. Extensive on-the-job training will be provided.

Job Purpose :

Ensure the precise assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft components, guaranteeing they meet all technical and quality standards for successful space missions.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities :

Collaboration and Communication :

  1. Work closely with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  2. Provide technical support and guidance to team members.
  3. Communicate effectively to resolve issues and ensure project success.

Design and Development :

  1. Lead the detailed design and development of high precision optomechanical systems.
  2. Create 3D CAD models of optomechanical systems, mechanical components, and optical elements.
  3. Review and refine high tolerance optomechanical drawings.

Assembly and Integration :

  1. Design and improve assembly and integration processes for optomechanical systems.
  2. Integrate optical and mechanical components to ensure proper alignment and functionality.
  3. Maintain the integrity of optical systems in a cleanroom environment.
  4. Mature and improve the company's AIT procedures.

Testing and Validation :

  1. Develop and execute test plans for optomechanical systems.
  2. Perform environmental testing, including thermal, vibration, and shock tests.
  3. Analyse test data to validate system performance and make necessary adjustments.

Project Management :

  1. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are met.
  2. Manage timelines and resources for optomechanical AIT activities.
  3. Prepare and present project status reports.

Quality Assurance :

  1. Implement quality control procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  2. Conduct inspections and audits of optomechanical systems.
  3. Address and resolve any non-conformances.

Documentation and Reporting :

  1. Maintain detailed records of assembly, integration, and testing activities.
  2. Prepare technical documentation, including design documentation, work instructions, build history documentation, test reports, and customer documentation.
  3. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.

Required Experience :

  1. 5+ years in mechanical or optomechanical engineering roles, preferably in the space industry.
  2. Experience performing AIT of optical payloads or other high-precision optical instrumentation is preferred.
  3. Experience working in a cleanroom environment and complying with quality processes is preferred but not a requirement.
  4. Experience in mechanical design, development and manufacturing.

Required Technical Competencies :

  1. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  2. Proficiency in designing high precision optomechanical systems.
  3. Experience with optical alignment and integration techniques.
  4. Understanding of FEA principles and ability to interpret results for design improvement.
  5. Knowledge of environmental testing procedures, including thermal, vibration, and shock tests.
  6. Ability to develop and execute test plans for optomechanical systems.
  7. Implementation of quality control procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  8. Conducting inspections and audits of optomechanical systems.
  9. Proficiency in generating technical documentation, including design requirements, test protocols, and reports.
  10. Ability to maintain detailed records of assembly, integration, and testing activities.
  11. Skills in managing timelines and resources for optomechanical AIT activities.

Required Qualification :

Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optomechanical Engineering or related field.

Recommendations :

  2. Experience and knowledge of optical / optomechanical systems.
  3. Experience with Siemens Teamcenter and NX software.
  4. Experience performing AIT of optical payloads or other high-precision optical instrumentation.
  5. Experience working in a cleanroom environment and complying with quality processes.
  6. Hands-on experience with interferometry techniques and equipment.
  7. Proficiency in optical metrology.

Special requirements :

Will be required to work on weekends and after hours.
