Job description

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for implementation and monitoring of the organization’s environmental management system on a project level to reduce any impact on the environment, in line with current environmental legislation and international standards (ISO 14001) as well as the project specific Environmental Authorization (EA) and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tertiary Education in the Environmental discipline
  • ISO 14001 Internal Auditor
  • 3 years’ experience as an Environmental Officer or in the environmental field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement policies, procedures, and aspect/impact assessment on Environmental in accordance with applicable legislative requirements, regulations, standards as well as organisation requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of policies, procedures, and aspect/impact assessments in accordance with applicable legislative requirements, regulations, standards as well as organisation requirements.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents, liaise with parties, and ensure all documentation is updated.
  • Conduct monthly environmental compliance audit of project activities to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and other requirements.
  • Conduct site inspection to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Environmental objectives and targets are monitored and documented.
  • Implement and maintain compliance with the project specific environment authorisation, and environmental management programme (EMPr).
  • Implement and maintain ISO 14001 at site level.
  • Implement and maintain an effective waste management system on site and keep a record of all waste generated by site.
  • Identify aspects, assess impacts, and implement effective control measures.
  • Implement necessary corrective action and monitor effectiveness.
  • Adequate documented information (document and record control).
  • Advise employees, visitors, and contractors/suppliers regarding legislative, organisation and client requirements with regards to the environmental industry.
  • Represent employees on matters regarding environmental matters.
  • Hold meetings with site staff and stakeholders on compliance and environmental matters.
  • Refer to the relevant SHEQ department QMS documentation (career path, roles, responsibilities, integrated management system such as document control, monitoring and measuring, non-conformances, management of change, etc).
