Job Description:

The Country Freight Supervisor manages daily operations and guides the development of the operations function for Brokerage, Ocean & Air Freight. He/She is responsible for complex customer accounts and the coordination of logistics transactions ensuring successful export and import of goods.

This position manages budgets and oversees customer invoicing, allocation, reconciliation of funds while generating reports to combine operational data for shipment processing and management review. He/She uses knowledge and understanding of the comprehensive portfolio of ocean and air freight services (e.g., export, import, Customs brokerage, etc.) to actively engage customers.

This position coordinates with business development account executives and develops shipment plans to secure new ocean & air business opportunities.

He/She upholds compliance with laws and regulations, helping maintain customer service commitments and service quality.

This position manages a number of employees based in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. He/She resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.

This position resolves freight and Customs problems in a timely manner to meet customers' expectations and avoid penalties.

1. Develops operational goals and plans, monitors and communicates operations performance against plan and customer deadlines, sets priorities, reports financial & operational performance, prepares analyses for clients, and provides recommendations for operational improvements.
2. Maintains client relationships, conducts customer meetings and business reviews to assist clients in maintaining a leading business edge.
3. Develops responses to atypical issues and manages customer expectations through business reviews.
4. Troubleshoots customer problems and escalates atypical issues for management recommendations.
5. Manages departmental financial performance, organizes and prioritizes workloads, develops and maintains standard operation procedures.
6. Oversees the execution of processes and evaluates quality goals to identify process improvements.
7. Manages compliance and liability reports to reduce cargo delays and costs associated with non-compliance.
8. Monitors processes for regulatory compliance.
9. Responsible for managing service centers, working closely with agents and consignees (ocean & air, domestic and international).
10. Responsible for working with carriers, freight systems, and driving operational process improvement.
11. Coordinates air freight trade services, products, and operations.
12. Works closely with sales and program management groups to grow revenue through cross-selling and expansion of existing client relationships.

Key Competencies:

• Degree or diploma in logistics and/or supply chain.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in freight forwarding.
• Minimum 5 years’ people management experience.
• Advanced Excel, proficient in MS Office and overall computer literacy.
• Experience with labor relations.
• Experience negotiating with trucking carriers and international airlines.
• Experience with and knowledge of international trade lanes.
