Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Officer
Currently seeking an Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Officer for a leading FMCG company based in Cape Town.
The purpose of the position is to coordinate, support, and advise the business on all aspects regarding environment, health, and safety, and to establish, manage, and monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with health, safety, and environment are adhered to.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review & maintain the environmental, safety and health system to ensure it's always updated.
- Coordinate and drive preparedness and readiness to all safety and health protocols.
- Coordinate all contractors on site according to existing and new regulations.
- Conduct emergency drills and scenario-based training to employees.
- Draft annual training plan and budget for all safety training required by the organisation.
- Carry out regular inspections of workplaces and equipment to identify hazards and risks that impact workplace safety and the environment and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
- Respond to and investigate concerns and complaints from employees and take appropriate action.
- Investigate accidents and incidents that occur in the workplace, establish root causes, and recommend remedial action.
- Report all incidents to relevant authorities as and when required.
- Ensure that all findings are actioned and closed off.
- Drive PPE compliance through line management and ensure that the correct PPE is worn at all times.
- Conduct educational awareness programs and promote occupational health & safety awareness within the organisation.
- Ensure SOPs and monthly toolbox talks are completed.
- Ensure risk assessments are adhered to and updated.
- Promote a safer and healthier environment in the workplace.
- Partake in SHE site audits.
- Engage with authorities, regulatory bodies, auditors with any SHE related issues, visits etc.
Objectives
- Objective 1: Establish, monitor and drive the performance of the workplace health & safety committee.
- Objective 2: Maintain the safety files of Principal contractors and ensure all contractors adhere to the company policies.
- Objective 3: Support internal environmental, risk and social assessments and audits and reporting.
- Objective 4: Maintain housekeeping, safety and environmental requirements.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade years' Experience preferably in FMCG environment, maintaining safety, health & environmental system. 5 years' Experience in maintenance of safety processes and procedures in a Factory. Good understanding of environmental and social legislation.
