Vacancy: Nursing Unit Manager (NUM)

Simondium, just outside Paarl, Western Cape

Bloemendal Clinic, a private dual diagnosis facility treating individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) to join our clinical leadership team.

We operate under licenses from both the Department of Health and the Department of Social Development, providing integrated, ethical, and person-centred care.

Minimum Requirements:

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
• Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role
• Experience in mental health and/or substance use treatment is essential

Knowledge of the following legislation:

• Nursing Act 50 of 1978
• Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002
• Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act 70 of 2008
• Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965
• Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the delivery of safe, holistic nursing care in line with Bloemendal Clinic’s protocols and licensing standards
• Collaborate actively with the multidisciplinary team (psychiatrists, GPs, psychologists, social workers) to ensure coordinated patient care
• Manage and ensure strict compliance with medication administration, including:
• Schedule drug key control and daily medication checks
• Cold chain and controlled drug documentation
• Ordering and cost-effective stock control
• Maintain 100% shift coverage, plan staff rosters, and ensure adequate cover at all times
• Supervise nursing staff, provide in-service training, and conduct performance appraisals
• Oversee admissions, discharges, suicide watch, risk protocols, and crisis management procedures
• Ensure timely referrals and proper documentation of follow-up care
• Lead weekly patient file audits and ensure accurate clinical records

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• ≥98% Shift Coverage Maintained
• ≥95% File Audit Compliance
• 100% Timely Incident Reporting (within 12 hours)
• 100% Compliance with Medication Oversight & Cold Chain
• 100% Valid SANC Registrations for Nursing Staff
• 100% Timely and Documented Referrals
• Consistent, documented engagement with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
