Overview of the Role and Requirements

The function will include the implementation and operational support of the network technologies within the Firstrand Group. The technical specialist should demonstrate expertise in network switching functions and design, as well as excellent problem-solving skills.

1. 5 years' minimum experience in IT Data Center Networks.
2. Expert knowledge of Cisco Data Center Technologies.
3. Essential to have an excellent understanding of best practices in Network appliances, devices, and components.
4. Knowledge of Cisco ACI networks will be an advantage.
5. Knowledge of load balancing technologies.
6. CCNA Data Center certification will be an advantage.
7. The applicant will be required to work on-site weekend maintenance slots at the various Computer Centre facilities.

Responsibilities

1. Maintenance of complex Network switching systems.
2. Contributing to the design of a fully resilient / redundant Network in the required Technology area.
3. Advanced Cisco device configurations and support.
4. Ability to build Network switches from the base configuration and associated IOS upgrades.
5. Evaluating and optimizing network performance.
6. Automation of Network functions and duties.
7. Participating in special assignments and projects.
8. Leading the planning of migrations to new / improved hardware and software products.
9. Preventing wastage and identifying process improvements to contain and reduce costs.
10. Developing financial model for charge-out for all components to ensure relevant income is generated.
11. Building working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration, and innovation.
12. Providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership in area of expertise.
13. Ensuring compliance to legislative and audit requirements and adherence to relevant processes.
14. Developing appropriate strategic plans for the network design and architecture by executing plans and all changes required to optimise business network.
15. Monitoring changes in legislation, regulations, initiatives and relevant industry practices.
16. Ensuring drafting and implementation of appropriate interventions.
17. Identifying all the components within the network by defining benchmarks for latency and utilisation of network components.
18. Implementing network changes during defined slots and at appropriate times by executing all changes.
19. Ensuring all network testing and analysis of network facilities are executed and findings used to increase efficiencies in the business.
20. Producing multi-network designs, design policies and applications for the business.
21. Resolving high-level problems.
22. Ensuring network security policy implementation and monitoring.
23. Assessing own performance through seeking timely and clear feedback and requesting training where appropriate.
24. Managing personal development to increase own skills and competencies.
