We are on the lookout for a highly motivated, mid-weight content writer to join our Cape-Town based team (on a hybrid basis). The ideal candidate is a writer (and editor) at heart, with a love for crafting compelling and informative content and editorial.
If you have experience as a public relations content writer – even better. If you don’t, and you’re eager to learn, are ready to receive honest feedback and grow into becoming a content maestro who notices when a semi-colon should have been used instead of a comma, you’re the one we’re looking for!
The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of PR content on behalf of a suite of top-tier clients, predominantly in the financial services sector. Think insurance, asset and wealth management and financial education. But you’ll also dive headfirst into content about travel and tourism, small business development and retail.
The ideal candidate is someone who is well-rounded enough to adapt their writing style to suit the communications strategies and styles of both B2B and consumer brands.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct desktop research and write content (mostly press releases and thought leadership articles) that hits the mark in terms of client brief and media expectations.
- Work with client management teams to develop content calendars, ideas and topics.
- Run our daily Newsdesk meetings and help in sourcing and identifying news angles for clients in line with our ‘always-on’ approach to PR.
- Assist the head of content with generating ideas for social media content and run with the process from ideation to content creation.
- Attend client-facing briefings and spokesperson interviews as required.
- Assist with the editing and proofreading of case studies and other content for the MSL website.
- Write thought leadership content purposed towards promoting MSL’s expertise and services.
- Serve as support for client management teams and step in above and beyond your expected duties to fill gaps and help teams during busy periods.
Qualifications:
- A tertiary qualification in English Studies/Journalism/Copywriting or related field.
- 4+ year’s working experience as a content writer or in a similar role.
- Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Word / Excel / PowerPoint etc.).
- Knowledge of how to use Canva is advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of SEO content writing is advantageous.
- Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with social media marketing is advantageous.
- Wordpress or similar CMS experience is advantageous.
