PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To supervise the safe and cost-effective execution of all production related activities, ensuring the achievement of production and quality targets, and maintaining high quality work standards on shift.

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY
- Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Ensure SHEQ compliance within the Team through effective use of the Toolbox.
- Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
PEOPLE
- Ensure an enabling climate/culture.
- Maintain labour stability by minimising labour turnover.
- Manage performance against set targets and competencies.
- Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly).
- Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.).
- Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels.
- Conduct recruitment interviews.
- Training of new employees on plant specific induction.
- Train employees on Critical and/or Standard Operating Procedures (CSOPs and SOPs).
CUSTOMERS
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction (Internal & External).
BUSINESS PROCESSES
Production:
- Supervise production operations.
- Achieve production targets.
- Achieve production quality.
Unplanned Interventions:
- Prioritise breakdown and authorize work.
- Arrange resources.
- Assess risks related to unplanned jobs.
Reporting:
- Complete the shift report.
- Update the MES and KPI’s.
Responsibilities:
- Operate plant within designated parameters, achieving production targets.
- Conduct plant process inspections.
- Actively manage planned and unplanned tasks to be completed during shift.
- Analyse and interpret production results, identify, and assess deviation, initiate and take corrective action using available resources.
- Analyse and interpret Production Process Data on MIE.
- Make suitable changes to ensure process stability in terms of furnace metallurgy control.
- Utilise FLOW to manage staff related issues in the team e.g. monitor trends and patterns of performance, absenteeism and overtime. Take corrective action in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provide inputs for compiling the operations and maintenance budgets, and adhering to budget constraints.
- Provide technical support to subordinates during fault finding and improvement work.
- Understanding and use of IMS, LMS, MES, COUPA, KPI Fire, EBMS and FLOW.
- Control production costs.
- Assist in developing Process training materials.
- Supervise subordinates, including training and development of the Production team.
- Supervise the production process.
- Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence.
- Implement and maintain 5S in the plant.
- Management of production processes on a shift basis.
- Work overtime as and when required.
Minimum qualifications:
- N6 Certificate for external candidates.
- Completed N4 Certificate for internal candidates only.
- 4 years’ relevant experience gained in a production environment, preferably 1 year’s supervisory experience.
- Computer Literacy.

- Relevant operational experience, including production management.

Knowledge:
- Demonstrate an understanding of Safety KPI’s.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of a smelting process.
- Production of FeCr through furnaces.
- Smelt balance management.
- Raw material loading systems.
- PLC systems.
- Statistics (advantage).
