Medical Specialist-Anaesthesiology

The Paediatric Anaesthesiologist will be responsible for all aspects of patient care within the unit and will work to support the Head of the Clinical Unit to ensure the unit delivers world-class, child and family-centred care to all NMCH patients.

Responsibilities

1. Function in line with all policies, programmes, and initiatives to support the NMCH's vision, mission, and values.
2. Act as a role model through strong relationships and accessibility, and through effective intra- and inter-unit communication.
3. Be actively involved in and support an innovative and diverse academic programme, and work to ensure the strengthening of the integration of care, education, and research within the unit, NMCH, and beyond.
4. Accept clinical and supervisory responsibilities appropriate for a specialist.
5. Providing anaesthesia for the tertiary and quaternary level medical and surgical services in the hospital, which include paediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic, nephrology, oncology, general paediatric, transplant, plastic and craniofacial, spinal, and neurosurgical procedures.
6. Supervising, mentoring, and teaching registrars and other health professionals in the above.
7. Providing an after-hours service as per departmental rosters.
8. Supporting other clinical and non-clinical initiatives established by the department and interdepartmental teams.

Qualifications

• Registration with HPCSA as a Specialist Anaesthesiologist (FCA or equivalent)
