VACANCY: Medical Operations Manager

REPORTING TO: Accountable Manager

LOCATION: Africa or South Africa

Starlite Aviation is seeking a passionate and strategic Medical Operations Manager to join our team in Africa or South Africa. In this critical role, you will be responsible for leading the medical team and optimizing the medical services we provide to a diverse clientele. You will play a key role in the development of new business in support of the Commercial team to grow the medical division.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Accountable for leading the medical team, including medical personnel in field, training, administration, IT and supply chain functions.
  2. Maintain the highest service levels provided to clients and patients.
  3. Support business development initiatives in conjunction with the Commercial team by identifying new opportunities, providing information for the submission of bids, and promotion of the Starlite brand.
  4. Maintain compliance with SACAA Part 138 and EURAMI regulations, as well as industry standards for best practice.
  5. Risk management of medical-related occurrences at all Starlite bases.
  6. Support and Development of a robust Occupational Health management system for all Starlite bases, including oversight of fit-for-duty and crew health for all Starlite personnel deployed.
  7. Coordination and Management of the medical personnel roster.
  8. Management of the Medical Budget in line with contract and company requirements.
  9. Oversight of equipment and consumables stores, including coordination of equipment servicing and stock management.
  10. Oversight of IT and administration systems and processes, including patient documentation and records.
  11. Recruitment of medical personnel in line with contract requirements and client-specific criteria.
  12. Close collaboration with all key stakeholders within Starlite, to ensure successful execution of client deliverables.
  13. Oversight of Training and Development programmes in conjunction with the crew training manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  3. Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Sound understanding of medical logistics, equipment, and pharmaceutical management in austere environments.
  5. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards governing medical operations in remote or challenging settings.
  6. Proven ability to develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure the delivery of safe and effective medical care.
  7. Experience in emergency response and disaster management is essential.
  8. Experience in Health and Safety management is desirable.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  1. Clinical exposure in the provision of prehospital, aeromedical or emergency services with more than 5 years post-graduation experience.
  2. Proven experience in healthcare management roles, with a focus on leading and overseeing medical teams in dynamic and challenging environments.
  3. Working knowledge and experience of the healthcare audit process is essential. Experience with the SACAA Part 138 regulatory process is desirable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Paramedical Sciences, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  2. Appropriate Medical registration in country of origin (EU, UK, USA, RSA, AUS, NZ).
  3. Physician/Nurse: Additional specialisation in either Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care or Anaesthetics.
  4. Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or approved equivalent.
  5. Valid Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)/International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)/Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
  6. Aviation for Health Care Providers (AHCP) or internationally accepted equivalent.

ADVANTAGEOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:

  1. Varied international medical and/or healthcare system experience.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in a managerial role in remote area medicine.
  3. Certification in Healthcare Management, Medical Administration, or a relevant field.

REQUIRED LANGUAGES:

  1. English fluency (Oral and written) is required.
  2. French advantageous.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. You may be required to travel extensively due to operational requirements.
